Well. Out of the hundred+ rooted cuttings I did through the winter, and the 30-40 or so plants I still have after giving some away and watered all summer. Then the 5-10 that produced figs, and the three plants that had produced early enough to hopefully ripen and the one tree ahead of the rest I have one green fig that has almost doubled in size and changed to light green. I hope I get to try my first fig. Wed we are supposed to get hard rain and then temps dip into low 40s. All this and I am also hoping birds and squirrels don't know what figs are and ruin the fig. Really hoping this is ready to go before rains wed. Will post a pic if I get to taste! Sounds like a lot of work for one fig but I am encouraged. I think next year with all the growth on the plants I should see way more figs. I also learned how to be successful rooting figs from cuttings and met many interesting, generous, and knowledgeable people along the way. Thanks all and please keep fingers crossed for me that I get to try the fruits of labor... hoping to split in thirds so that my wife, daughter, and I can all sample.

Wow, good luck Scott. Lots of variables to consider. I certainly know the feeling of guarding that one fig, as well as sharing it between 4 mouths. ;) Let us know how it goes!

Ouch, low 40s, I grew up in NH and I know cold. Now I know cold from afar, live in FL since 1976. Now I have to deal with rain, humidity and hurricanes. Good luck for some ripe figs Scott, I wish you the best.

Hi Scott, if it's in a not-too-big container, maybe you can move it to a protected spot? Good luck, I hope you get to taste it after all the time invested.

Thanks everyone!
Frank - loved the photo of your fam enjoying figs a while back. Cracked me up.
Wayne- It was a shock to see the temps drop so quickly but comes with the territory I guess. Thanks for the wishes.
Figgary- it is in a 5 gallon bucket so I may try to manipulate it the best I can to avoid the major lows.
Coop- Dominick produced a fig late in the season. Couple weeks ago but I plucked it to give the tree more energy. Hopefully next year on that one since it looks so healthy!

Scott, You are off to a good 1st year. Next year you will have more and the 3rd year will be big for you.
