Nice, Andreas!
Did you score the bark or cut a ring to force the root formation?

Igor I didn’t do anything more than mix sand with potting soil and fill it. Imagine the laziest way possible… that is how I do it. Its open at the top and I treat it like a potted plant

Interesting. Last year I did something very similar and after 2 months removed the bottle.
The fig started growing better but didn't bother to root at all.
I had to cut a ring off on the second try.

Nice lazy work Andreas. I did a similar layer last year but I did lightly scrape the bark in one or two spots.

Last year I did a lazy man air layer based on a You Tube Video by Emory. I put soil in a gatorade container no cuts, no slitting and exposing under layer. I put aluminum foil over it and watered it when it seemed dry. It did great. No fuss, no muss.
Something to be said about it. Wonderful low tech video

Calvin and Coop ok now after that video i dont feel that bad. i am not the only lazy fig lover in the world LOL. however no person drinking a sports drink like gatorade can realy be that lazy. that is why i did it in a water container.

That a really cool way of air layering sure beats plastic wrap. Do you cut the bottle all the way in half then tape it together. I want to try it in morning

i just cut remove the neck part and the bottom. after that i just cut it down one side so i can fit the branch through it... after that i tape it up, add some large pieces gravel at the bottom so the mix can drain and just fill it with potting soil and sand.

Thanks for sharing this Andreas, I've played with different styles of air layering, the mixture you use work great for sure. One disadvantage is the weight of the soil, sometimes on a potted tree or a flexible branch may bend the tree down.

Wet sphagnum moss and aluminum foil is a good option on a small branch or potted tree, very good success rate when removing the bark and using a bit of rooting hormone!

I do heavy zip lock back with seed statering soil wrapped in eletric tape. Foil is a good idea. Sounds easier. But i do like the greek way for heavier branching

Richie good call on the starter soil! I did one on my Negronne at the end of July, same like Andreas' but with MGrow starter soil instead, and cut and potted it at the end of September and it still went on and ripened all the figs on it! I thought I was gonna lose them all for sure but the air layer behaved as nothing ever happened! The branch on the pic is the airlayered one before the "operation" !

Looks perfect. Air layering is the way to go. Very strong looking plant. Im going outside and do more on a couple of Italian black i picked up in baton Rouge yesterday it was at a nursery real close,to the lsu ag center. They had a nice veriety of lsu figs. The two i bought. One was marked Italian black. The other Dwarf Italian black. Dont know if they are lsu or not. All the others had lsu papper tags. The two i got were hand written tags. The plants bark look similar to crape meryle. Not sure what i got,,

I like that you can add water compared to a sealed air graft
