Very nice!
Could you post a photo of the leaves, please?
I've seen the Nero600m with the thin fingered leaves and yours seem to look different.

Are there different Nero 600m's out there?

Igor,

Nero600M seems to have two leaf types..the long fingered leaves and single lobed leaves.  I have two Nero's in ground and one has normal leaves and the other bush has two main limbs one that has normal finger leaves and the other branch is all single lobe mulberry type leaves.

Very nice!  And especially for October 10th in Canada!  Way to go at pushing the season.  I too have been getting some very late harvest figs (9 today in NY state, zone 5a).  Your figs look beautiful, and that leaf looks very strong for so late in the season too.  Congrats.

Is there a difference between Nero 600 and Nero 600 M ?
What does the M stand for?

'm' stands for 'meters' as in "600 meters elevation."

How is it different than Valle Negra? There was some discussion that it was the same as Nero 600, but perhaps not... Beautiful colors on that fig Paully.

The fig was found 600 meters up in the mountains near a village that the fig was named after of. I might be wrong but I believe there was two found at two different elevations. One got the 600m tag while the other didn't.

Interesting... Jarrett thanks you. How did you obtain this, is it valid, can we add to history? What's the source of the info?

http://www.planetfig.com/cultivars/fcveng8595.html I had to also ask someone over in Europe that had history on the fig.

<caveat first>I know that fig naming is inherently error prone and full of silliness</caveat first>

So, keep in mind that Nero just means Black.  This name of Nero 600M seems to have stuck across a pretty wide swath of people, and the story about the 600m elevation is catchy, so that makes the name seem a little more exotic.  Not sure how long that name has been around.  It's a black fig that was found at an elevation of 600m above sea level.  (But also, 600M is not really all that high up... in feet it's about 2000 ft... and given the latitude of that village, 2000 feet above sea level is not all that cold a place compared with where some folks grow figs).  Anyway, my preference is for Valle Calde or ValleCalde (the Calde Valley) as a name I'd prefer, if it's the same fig cultivar.  You mention that paully... do you know it to be an alternative name for the same cultivar?

And Mike in Hanover, do you have a reference for it being the same cultivar as Valle Negra?  I have Valle Negra (the fig variety I mean... I don't own any land in the Black Valley in Lombardy), but I hadn't heard that it's the same as this cultivar that people call Nero 600m... do you know if it is, or have you seen a reference discussion on that?  The leaves I've seen for Valle Negra don't look much like the leaves that paully shows, but I guess we all know just how misleadingly unreliable leaf morphology can be.  But the fruits I've seen of Valle Negra (at least so far) don't look too much like paully's fruit either.  Incidentally, in the name Valle Negra, I think the "negra" part of that didn't come about because it's a black fig (though it is).  I think it came about because Black Valley (Valle Negra) is a local dialect usage for the name of the valley where it was found... Valle Camonica in Lombardia (Lombardy), Italy.  See http://www.italia.it/en/travel-ideas/unesco-world-heritage-sites/valcamonica-the-rock-art.html or you can look on Maggie's fig site at https://sites.google.com/site/mediterraneanfloragarden/my-fig-tree-varieties (scroll down).

I'd be interested to learn if the Valle Calde variety and Valle Negra are really the same variety... I hadn't heard that.  (Any reference appreciated).

MichaelTuscon, herman2 at one time stated they were the same. I have no clue either way. Maybe a case of mislabelling?

Hey Mike, here is the post I remember reading- http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=6024635

Post 5 Herman states he believes they are the same fig. When I searched for this post, I found a post by Bullet08 (Pete), where he said they were not the same based on a discussion at GW. I have yet to look this thread up and read it.

Paul,
would you please compare the fruit with coin or something for size aspect of it? It's hard to imagine how big the fig is ...In older thread from 2012 the figs looked tiny compared with a quarter coin but yours here look much larger (which , to me, is a great thing) yours look big on the leaf.
so, another pic with a coin along the fig would be gray ...if you can. :)
