TRADE CUTTINGS FOR NON-FIG PLANTS?

Hello everyone. I have had some people ask me to trade my Antigone's Mystery Fig cuttings for their fig cuttings. I can't have another fig tree. Not enough space. But I am interested to trade for other cuttings, a baby plant, or perhaps seeds? My zone is 10a so it needs to grow for me here. I like flowers and fruit, vines, succulents, and some veggies. Especially if they attract bees! Absolutely no oniony type things; I'm allergic (but if you want me to send you a bundle of the thousands of wild leeks that offend my yard, I'm more than happy to). For most things I'll probably trade 5-6 cuttings. If you don't have anything to trade, you can always get them anyway for $5.75 shipping fee. Hi Amber, I too am blessed to be living in NorCal. (9a for me, an hour north of Sac) I have been a follower of F4F for a while now and have gained so much great info about ficus from the members postings here, that I truly feel indebted to all that have shared their knowledge so freely. I need to start paying off that debt... I have a third-acre of Triple Crown thorn-less blackberries that I obtained from the Univ of Arkansas that produce berries larger than apricots and are so delicious they become addictive! They love the Cali weather and would do well in zone 10 for you. (We just need to provide a 30 to 50% shade for them once they flower, or else the incessant California sun cooks the fruit on the vine) If you'd like to give them a try, just PM me an address to send them to. Those do sound very good, but unfortunately/luckily (I mean, those berries are tasty and the bees love the flowers) I have a very well established and evil blackberry vine that attempted to take over my entire yard, which is about 60'x20', this year. Just moved here last August so did not realize what was lurking beneth the soil. By the time I noticed what a problem I had, there was a small thicket conquering my South facing fence, new vines popping up everywhere, and an older vine weaving around my fig branches. I'm still interested in trading cuttings for non fig plants. I've realized that I am less interested in seed unless it's something totally fascinating (I admit that I'm a lazy and impatient gardener). I am not interested in: tomatoes, onions, leeks, garlic, chive, vines with thorns, most anything with thorns, anything poisonous to a pack of dummy dogs. Vine plants that are susceptible to powdery mildew (cantaloupe, squash, etc). I am interested in: stuff that works well for containers (certain bulbs or bush all the way up to a 25 gallon pot), succulents, flowers (will accept seed if they're fast growers). Artichokes. Stuff that does well in California. I already have: one beautiful fig tree, blackberries, blueberries, a ton of succulents so send me a pic of what you would want to trade, dragon fruit cuttings, passion vine, mint, Kool-aid bush, lots of California natives, western white clematis, thyme. I am very open to discussions of fair trade but my starting trade is usually 5-6 cuttings. Amber, if you would like to trade for Loquat tree cuttings, I'm your guy. I live in Central Florida (zone 9). I grew my tree from seed and it is currently over thirty feet tall and that's with cuttings down to a 4 foot trunk, twice. Right now, the tree is loaded with clusters of flowers, so it does attract lots of bees. If interested, I will go out and cut however many you need the day I ship. Send me a pm. I also have a small plant about 8 inches that is growing from a seed. What do you use for shade? My blackberries got fried in the San Jose sun last year. Will have to put something up next year and not sure what/how strong. OP, Where in NorCal are you that is 10a? I don't use anything for shade except perhaps my fig tree at certain times of the day. Vine is growing on an east facing wall about 10 feet behind my 8ish foot fig tree I can tell you for certain that this blackberry bush is like the serial killer that keeps coming back in the movies even though you've hacked the hell out of it. If these can be grown from cuttings I am more than happy to send you some. Or perhaps I can find a little one growing in my lawn with some roots. I live in the east bay so it definitely gets pretty hot here. I have gotten a lot of members expressing interest in receiving cuttings from our thornless blackberries and for several varieties of pomegranates which we grow... Our temperatures here are still relatively mild yet. The vines won't go dormant until around the first of the year. So, for those that would like starts, simply send a PM after the first and I'll try to ship out as many as possible. Ohjustaguy - I use a 50% commercial shade cloth above the vines (Mintcraft HD) once the berries start coming on. In addition, one has to closely monitor the moisture level of the soil when we start hitting triple digits here as well. __________________ Ebay: Bluemalibu NorCal, 9B - Fig Heaven. Hi Amber - After reading your post, two plants of mine come to mind. 1. Mexican Flame Vine (cuttings, no seeds at this time) Perennial flower for USDA hardiness zones 9a-11b (lows to -6.7 °C or 20 °F) Slightly colder zones can mulch and pray Fast growing annual in colder regions Full sun to part shade Height: 10-12 feet Spacing: 1-2 ft Flowers prolifically with vibrant orange blooms Blooms all season to first frost 2. Texas Bird Pepper/Capsicum annuum L. "Does the flame vine irritate your skin?" I have never experienced any irritation from the flame vine. "How is the flavor of the bird pepper?" For the record, I am not a 'chili-head'. These are hot but not Habenaro or Ghost pepper hot. The heat doesn't linger (gone in a few seconds). They can be eaten green or red. I prefer them red as they seem to have a natural smokey flavor. I also have another vine you might also be interested in, Solanum Jasminoides. White flower that attracts bees. Regards Rick __________________ SE Texas, zone 8b
