Hello everyone.  It's that time again.  My Sweet Diana Unknown had a good year.  She gave us lots of delicious figs and air layers that everyone (Even the tree rats!) enjoyed.  She's all trimmed up and the cuttings are ready to go.  Going to try and keep the costs down for everyone and do 5 or 6 6"-10" cuttings for $5.  PayPal UpstateFigs@aol.com.  Please PayPal as "Friends & Family".  PM your address.

Sweet Diana Unknown has been in the ground for 6 years here in Staten Island, NY, Zone 7a.  Last year was going to be the final time that I protect her for the winter but going to do it one more time due to the polar vortex.  She did not experience any dieback but she did put on fruit later than normal.  The parent tree belongs to a neighbor across the street and it is also in ground.  The tree originally came from Italy 36+ years ago (Don't know the region) and has grown to two stories high.  It is very hardy and has never been covered for the winter.  She toughed out the polar vortex like a champ.

Sweet Diana Unknown grows like a weed.  She produces 2 crops of small purplish figs that are very, very sweet.  The pulp is strawberry red and has just the right amount of juice.  She has a nice texture with a thin skin and no seed crunch.  She's probably a variety of Celeste but don't know for sure.  Here are some pictures from this year and last.

Update 12/16/14 10:00AM EST:  Wow!  Great response!  30 packs accounted for.  2 left.  The next 2 that PayPal will get them.

Update 12/17/14 10:00AM EST:  Did a recount.  28 accounted for.  4 left.  Packages are going out this afternoon.

Update 12/17/14  8:30PM EST:  Cuttings all gone.

This is a great one for those of you learning to root.  She roots very easily and grows vigorously.  I'm hoping to taste the figs this year.

Hi Frank, When did you root them? The thing that made me go for this variety was the seemingly fast growth rate. I was wondering if you'd had a season's growth estimate or if it was just a quick root and shoot this current fall. Thanks

I probably rooted them about Feb?...this year. I put grow lights on them during late Winter and early Spring. This last Spring I transferred them to 1 gal pots and kept them and all my others on my back deck, which is shaded about half the time.....This early Fall one of the babies had 2 figs on it and I pulled them off, seemed the thing to do when they are small babies. I waited until the around April 10 to put them outside ( safe from freezes in my area)........And yes they are small trees now and they are asleep....Hope this helps!

I intend to containerize them. Will their vigorous growth mean they wont do well in pots?

Welcome to the forum Philip. Just a heads up, I personally would email or PM my address to forum members because this forum is visited by nonmembers or anyone searching the net can have access to your information. Just my opinion.

Hey Danny, great offer on a very nice tree! Do You think we might have the same variety? Mine was bought as a BT but I know it is not one! I was suspecting and it has been suggested by others that it is a Celeste but looking at Your pics and description they look kinda close to call ! I don t have a leaf pic but they look very close to yours and of the same size ,some ,12 to 14 inches across! Thanks for your time and any comment is appreciated! (My figs picked a bit early to beat the aerial assault but still very sweet!)

Chris - Looks like a Celeste variant.  Neck looks a little longer than Sweet Diana Unknown.  How old is the tree?

Last winter I rooted a few cuttings for friends and they got to about 5 feet tall and 3/4 to 1 inch cal by August! Here s some other pics I have of the fruit! I was calling it southern brown T after some pics I saw that resembled it! Figs can be deceiving ! Lol

If you look closely where the root has split the bark to come out you'll see a little red "S" under there.  That's how great this variety is at rooting.
