Just cut persimmon cutting. Dont know the name. They are base ball size. Very mushy and very sweet when ripe. If you sqeeze it all insides come right out. Easy when making wine. Would like to trade for fig cuttings but if you have nothing to trade just pay shipping. Thanks hope someone needs some

Keep them in a ziplock bag with a moist paper towel. People like me who will use them have to wait until bud break on persimmons in the spring time so those have to wait in the refrigerator until then. It's better they say to take scion wood in February. Sorry I didn't tell you already.

Ok. The suckers are concerned to the root system of the tree right. Because these are. Or is it a separate plant. If so just use a shovel or small ax and get a chunk of the root?

The Persimmon fruit you describe is certainly a Kaki and almost surely Grafted so a Sucker from the root system would likely not fruit true. Not to discourage anyone from trying but want your expectations in line with the probable. Grafting the scion is the way to go.

Phil Thanks for shedding some light on this persimmon. Just for information do you think a persimmon of this size and quality could be cold hardy?

Pino, What Richard described is a Astringent Kaki. It could be cold hardy relative to other Kaki, but Richards zone 8 location is not a good hardiness test. In general several of the ones normally considered more hardy are astringent, but that might just because there are many more astringent than non-astringent cultivars. Richard, Do you have a photo of the fruit, that might give us some likely suspects of cultivar. Some are identifiable. Like if they have a indented ring that kind of looks like acorn cap would likely Tamopan, Some cultivars were planted much more than others in past.

Strudeldog. Its my neighbors tree so no pics and it is dormit. I get the fruit from it. The fruit from my memory is yellow red skin. Peach flesh. For no better word slimmy mushy interior. Not appatising looking at all. Very very sweet. The top of the fruit looks like a big tomato but bigger. I can seach the web and show you what it looks like. The fruits is so soft when i pick them and put in bucket the leak everywhere. Best wine ever. Makes a off white wine. Hope this helps. Going to look for a pick

Richard that looks more like a non-astrigent type in the picture. They will get soft too if left on the tree and can be eaten same as the astrigent type. If there are any still on the tree that are firm and hard try one and see if it puckers you if not it is an non-astrigent and the picture looks like Fuyu or one of the many Jiro sports. The non-astrigent can be eaten like an apple while still hard and firm. Many people prefer that because of the slimy factor. Me I just like persimmons.

I dont know about that never tried all fruits picked and critters ate the, rest. No birs,or animals touch them untill they are ripe. Looks preety close i think thats the, fruit in pic. I will try one next year when they are still hard. I wont eat one ripe thats for sure. I tried some when making wine. But dont look good too mushy and slimmy. Lol. But. Wine is fine.

Yes that shape looks like a couple of the common planted non-astringent squat oblate shape. So it is 4 segmented like that or more rounded consistently? The most common astringents are not as squat more acorn shaped with a slight point to the end. Like Goss states try one after they color up well but prior to softening. If it is astringent your first taste which I suggest be a small one will tell. If you have a very uncomfortable sensation kind of like your face trying to be sucked up it's astringent.

Strudeldog. It is 4 segments just like pic. It looks exactly like picture. I googled persimmon fruit trees in Louisiana and soon as i seen it. I was like thats it for sure. Leaves on three bark. Etc. If not it it is real close. Like a squaty tomato with four segments the four segments was the main thing that first made me reconnize it. And the top were stem connection is too

I appreciate the offer Richard but right now I have more persimmon trees than I can handle. Maybe later I could take you up on that but this year I am in trouble I have already bought too much.
