When they're not turning my hair gray, my kids can bring a big smile to my face. This is the conversation I had with my boy tonight:
Me: Are you done with your bath yet?
3 y.o.: No, I'm planting.
Me: what are you planting?
3 y.o.: Figs. Big figs just like you, daddy.
Me: What type of figs are you planting.
3 y.o.: Blueberry figs!
If he was aiming for the charm bedtime delay, mission accomplished!

That's awesome. Reminds me of my 2 y.o. son. Always wants to come out and help me plant the rooted fig cuttings.

Jeffrey, my son was like that to at that age (probably still is). He loves to help me in the garden, except his version of "help" usually involves stealing my garden tools (won't use the special child-sized tools I bought for him) and flinging peat moss somewhere near where I'm planting. That or converting the patio into a potting soil sandbox. It's cute in hindsight, but it sure does make planting a more involved process.

Gardening is always more challenging with young ones - my daughters are 8 and 5 now - but the coolest thing here is that your son is absorbing what you're actually growing or doing. It's very rewarding when I can point to plants in the garden and my kids can name them and understand how they're used. Regardless of if they actually eat the fruit the plant produces. But yeah, digging for worms and beetles in my already-planted beds can be frustrating :)
