So there is someone selling rare figs and they have these on their list:
  • Pink Jerusalem
  • Clancy Blue
  • Calimyrna

I only have room for 1 more unfortunately. As long as its sweet and a prolific bearer i do not mind :) Does the Calimyrna need fig wasp pollination? (There are no fig wasps where i am)

Kind regards
F.C

Yes, the Calimyrna needs pollination. My Calimyrna tree has been one of my slowest growers. I'm not familiar with the other two figs on your list. Perhaps you would be better off with the LSU Gold on your wish list and one of the Adriatics if you like a sweet berry flavor.

What climate zone is Australia?
The wasp seems to live in N. Italy and even into Switzerland.

I also wonder about Pink Jerusalem.. Literally nothing on it.

As a first year fig grower.. I would recommend having no more than 5-10 reliable varieties or at least one in each flavor group. That will expose you to as many flavors as possible, so the following year you can make better decisions on what you should pursue based on your preferred tastes. This link will tell you everything you should be searching for: https://mountainfigs.net/answers/fig...olor-examples/

I would also add that Smith is a must have if you can get your hands on one. Tony (MountainFigs) does not list that one on his site. It's also important to know synonyms. See my spreadsheet in my signature for more information regarding that. The sheet labeled "Fig Families" is what you're looking for.

Yeah i figured that the calimyrna needs pollination unfortunately. I am still waiting for the LSU Gold to become available from a different seller (they sell them when they reach a certain height/age)

There is almost no info on  the clancy blue either. Makes me wonder if the names were given to the trees by the seller or that they are just really rare figs.

I will likely go for the pink Jerusalem.

Update: I have pre-purchased the LSU Gold that i have been wanting to get! Turns out today they added a pre-purchase function on their site which is good because i always miss out as many people beat me to it. Looks like LSU Gold it is and thus completes my fig collection......for now

Hi figcolt

Yes, clancy is a renamed fig. Its from an old but unnamed tree sourced by the late tony stevens. It was planted by the overflow of the grey water pipe. And was there for named after Clancy of the Overflow. (Poem by Banjo Patterson)

There is possibly a question mark of the plants getting around. One person was selling cuttings named Clancy, which quite probabaly werent clancy. I suspect they were cuttings from the flanders while another friend was sold cuttings that turned out to be a fig known as Harold Jo. Both are very nice figs but not what they were labelled as. Again, i have clancy in my collection, from two reliabe sources.
