I noticed some of these bugs on two of my fig trees yesterday. They were hanging out on the branches, not the leaves.
Any idea what they are?

It is a type of leaf hopper.

I consider them harmless, but they do eat/drink sap usually by piercing, so take that as you will.

I don't spray for them, but then again I don't spray anything more than neem oil for real nasties like spider mites.

Are you in Southern California? Do they run around to the other side of the branch when you try to grab them? If so my guess is glassy winged sharpshooter.

Mike, I'm in SoCal. Yes, exactly they try and run away when I try and grab them.

Yeah, they are another imported pest, i started seeing them about four years ago. There seems to be quite a lot of them this year. They leave a residue on your plants that looks like whitewash. They carry a vector that causes a very bad disease of grape vines, that I believe has no cure. I smush 'em when I see 'em.

I had a bunch of the yellow sticky 3x5 cards. I hung them in the trees where I saw them. We will see what happens.

Thanks for your help.
