Try the big nurseries that sell figs.  Send Lampo a PM, he may know.

Cuttings of persistent caprifigs can be ordered from the United States Department of Agriculture's  (USDA) National  Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) through the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN).  You can work your way through by starting with this link  http://www.ars.usda.gov/Main/docs.htm?docid=12146 .

I had gotten Caprifig Q from a very reliable fig friend, who had gotten it directly from this program.  I feel pretty confident he sent me the cultivar that he had received from them, but it turned out not to be a caprifig at all.  I can't say for sure where the error happened, but you can see from this picture that it is not a caprifig.  If you order from them, it might be worth mentioning this occurrence, especially since these trees took quite a while to start bearing fruit.  I found Enderud to be the fastest to bear, extremely prolific, and edible (but bland).

Thanks for that information - I was totally unaware.  Did they give any reason for stopping?

Hello Fignut. Edible caprifigs are identical to female figs except for their brebas which have stamens, have you had any brebas yet?

Is this true for all persistent caprifigs? So main crop fruits do not have any male genitals nor pollen, isn't it?

I didn't have any brebas on the Caprifig Q and wasn't aware that later crops didn't produce pollen.  The Enderud hasn't produced main crop figs and I have used it's brebas to pollinate main crop figs of common and San Pedro figs.

Caprifigs have 3 crops.  The Mamme come in Fall and overwinter, the profichi come in Spring and the mammoni come in Summer.  Only the profichi have pollen.

Good questions! Ficus carica is supposed to only make pollen in the first crop, though Ficus palmata and others may make pollen in all of their caprifigs and in the past people tried to use them for pollination of the Calimyrna breba crop but apparently failed.

Here in tropical environment fig trees (F. carica) produces fruit constantly. No first, second, third crop. In the monsoon season some varieties stops fruiting but most of the varieties ripen fruit one by one throughout the year. That's why I'm curious persistent caprifigs will produce pollen or reverts as a common fig?

Do you change gender when you get wet?   :)

If the plant is constantly wet it may not produce fruit at all because it doesn't like those conditions.  That's why many in SE Asia grow figs under glass or plastic.  If a caprifig is grown in favorable conditions and produces a profichi crop that crop will have pollen.

The amount of rain is not an issue but the absence of winter. Here fig trees never go dormant.

I don't think anyone can really answer the question until they have tried. One possibility is that another type of "dormancy" could initiate stamens, or growth hormones could might be used trigger them.

Yes, it should be one of the persistent caprifigs - I have a small plant under name "Paimpol" (place not so far from Roscoff) which was described as very similar to "Gillette"/"Croisic". Maybe all of them are the same caprifig variety.

Phofichi can produce pollen in summer, while mamme, mammoni not produce pollen due to cold cremate?

And I think Caprifig can produce pollen in SE coz SE is very hot and wet

Profichi will set on the branches that are already overwintered. So it is on the second year's branch.

But for persistent caprifigs we call breba and maincrop same as any other persistent figs.
