Here are a few pictures of a St. Jerome fig. This is an excellent tasting cultivar. This one will split with heavy rains. When rain is in the forecast be sure to pick all figs which have any surface skin cracks. They will still taste very good at that point. Although not as rich tasting as when they get fully ripe. IMO, St. Jerome is the same fig as Lou Elder's Quantico fig and is the same fig as Joe Morle's Black Triana. There is no need to get more than one of these named varieties. FYI, St. Jerome will grow nicely from the roots of a tree that was top killed and it will produce a crop of figs. Dan Semper Fi-cus

My St. Jerome fig tree was completely top killed this past winter. It has come back from the roots and has produced a nice crop of figs. Yesterday, I had a chance to eat a couple. The meat on one fig was stained a deep purple color. IMO, fig "meat" staining is a sign of a good tasting fig. Even though this one will split during heavy rains.....it can handle light rains. I will always keep this great tasting fig in my collection for the times that they will ripen to perfection during drier weather. It is a super "productive" cultivar....with a fig on every node.
