This breba fig was a real eye opener for me.  I thought I had accumulated a nice fig collection then I ran into this Sicilian black JR unknown wow!.

At first I thought it was a Sal's C but the taste of this fig was out of this world.
By far the best fig I ever tasted.  On top of that it is only a 2nd year plant over 6' already 5 or 6 side branches with some 20 brebas and main crop figlets.  (don't know how the main crop will be yet but I will find out).

The older gentleman who had this fig was from Foggia, Italy and he said he got rid of all his other fig trees and just grew this one black fig and a white one.

A good size medium fig.  The taste was full of explosive flavours, sweet, chewable, just a slight seed crunch.  It tasted too good to be true.  Does anyone recognizes it?

Sorry for the photo quality but I only had my cell phone and it was mid afternoon.  I only had a basket of peaches to place the fig on for a photo.

no knife to cut it had to use my fingers to split it.

Very nice, congratulations! Sounds like a variety that needs to be distributed for trials in Colorado..wink..wink.

Is that one in-ground or pot?

That looks like a special fig, Pino.  Make sure you clone that one several times.

Thanks John!

Calvin,
This tree is growing in a garbage pail with wheels (12gals or so) with black soil sold at local supermarket.  I am amazad that it was started from a large cutting only oct/13 and it is already producing nicely.

The mother tree was grown in ground near Niagara Falls z6 for many years by Giovanni.
He loved that fig and covered it well every year.  Giovanni was a great guy and he loved growing things.

Frank
Luckily I got a sucker with some roots!  It will be getting a choice spot for sure.

Thanks Quackaster!   Jerry, yes a keeper for sure.

I was allowed to pick a fig to take with me.  I got one near ripe and left it a day.
Had it tonight.    It was also very good and sweet.   Most of the flavour seemed to be in the chewy skin a tropical/berry fruit tone.

IMHO:It is another Sicilian Black, same as Robin's Sicilian Black.
If the fruits taste better than on your plant,Check the media you grow plant in and if your plant has the same sun exposure as His.
Needless to say,I know your plant is much younger, and makes fruits ,that are not as tasty as when plant will be mature.

Hi Vasile
I was hoping you would see this and post!
I definitely agree that they are very similar but the Robin's Sicilian Black seems to be prone to splitting and has the odd leaf that is round (see attached photo).
I didn't see any evidence of fig splitting on this tree an the leaves were very similar.  Also the taste was superior on this one. Of course my green thumb doesn't seem to be as well honed..LOL
Thanks for your valuable advice!

Thanks Grant!

I don't know if the main crop will ripen but it seems to be an excellent breba producer.

Thanks for the kind words Shailesh!

Binbin9, a post on Grantham Royals said supposed to be similar to Dauphine which doesn't look like this.   Who knows?

One other thing about this fig that is interesting is that it loves to produce suckers next to the plant.  Perfect layers...LOL

One thing that seems noteworthy about this variety, that could help to identify it, is the ribs running down the fruit.  The leaves look similar to the SalsC family but I'm pretty sure figs in that family don't have the ribs.

Bellissima for sure Rafael.

Tyler, these brebas are exactly what the doctor ordered..LOL

Steve, I also noticed the similarity to Sal's C but Sal C ripened 2 weeks earlier for me.

Hi Pino, that fig looks incredible!!!
Please keep me in mind to trade a cutting or two if you get a chance this fall. I would loooove to try growing it here in my area to see how it performs. I will contact you about it when the time comes.
Congrats on those brebas, those images are incredible!
