I took a video last night to help explain the problem with figs and Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD).  Please do not watch on a full stomach...

LOL, read my mind pretty well.  I was thinking, those don't seem disgusting, kind of interesting!  Not cute, I save that for puppies, little children, etc.  I also was wondering if they do actually have much protein content.  I think the bigger concern is eating a fig that tastes bad vs. worry about a few larva, but that's just me. :)

I still have not determined if I have had SWD in my figs or not, need to bite into some more and search for them.

Don, the spoiled figs are pretty aweful. You don't notice the larvae, but the rancid fruit is pretty strong. However, I had a rotten watermelon once and it was 100x worse.

Nick, i am an avid subscriber of yours on youtube and when i saw this video popup in recent items and i read your description, I quickly turned my screen off. I couldnt bear to watch the remainder of the video. I have already experienced bugs inside my hot peppers in past, which is why i always cut them now and would never eat them whole. Maybe if i'm bored and didn't eat one day or don't plan to, ill watch the video (maybe mid winter when there is no fresh figs in site). Always good videos though, so kudos!
