Take Black Madeira, Ronde de Bordeaux, Black Mission, Negronne, and mix them together you get a flavor close to this fig.

It is definitely not a smyrna or san pedro fig. It does seem to be a productive fig even in a container.
Gorgi, Did you want to keep the name as Maltese Beauty? unless you were able to get the local name of this variety.

The color inside is unusual.  How does it do with the rain?  Here's hoping this breaks all records for ebay price  :)

I will try this fig in the ground next year. The skin is nice and smooth, it doesn't have cracks so it has the potential to resist rain. The only thing is the eye on this fig was slightly open, but I don't think it matters much.
I will be watching this tree closely.

How is the weather holding up in PA. For Maltese Beauty? Fall is creeping up here in Idaho, getting a little chilly, I will be bringing mine indoors. Is this Maltese Beauty first winter (I know winter is not here, yet)

As my wish list describes I love "unknowns" :-)

As a good gesture, I am willing to offer 6 such cuttings right off the
mother tree to some of you many/increasing good F4F/FF members.

ONE (1) single twig Maltese Beauty (GM#155) per person...

Requirement:
You do know how to root, root them fig twigs.
You wrote at least 100 posts here.
You do not already have it.
And without any guaranties.

Cost:
$10 - shipped.

If Interested, email me privately; selected takers will be notified within one week
(others, better luck next time).

EDIT:
I am no longer accepting requests.
As of late Sun Sept 30 evening, I got swamped!
After I examine what is available, I'll try to (maybe) accommodate more than 6 people.
I will also (add weight) and try to distribute it to different US regions.

EDIT.2: (10/22/12)
B/c after looking inside my messy fridge, and realizing that I had more than I originally thought,
I hope that I made more than (2x)6 people happy.

Arrrg! Why did I have to read forever before joining and posting. Dang my desire to have an idea of what I may be talking about before I say or write something. I do know how to root cuttings from tender plants using 1" cubes, heat mat, and humidty dome if that helps (very successful with house plants).

This thought just registered my mind. "George your actually allowing members to PM you?" lol. Normally when ANYONE tries, I would imagine it reads something like this "This member does not accept private messages".

Congratulations to the lucky six

Both my Maltese Beauty and Maltese Falcon cuttings have rooted and are leafing out!  I had one cutting each!  Now my big job is to keep them alive in their little greenhouse cups.  There are roots everywhere after only 2.5 weeks!!

well suzi, that's what i read. i have Black Madeira, Rdb, and VdB. don't have black mission. i know what VdB taste like. i only heard about Black Madeir and RdB, but will be tasting them next year. so i can just imagine what Maltese Beauty will be like if half what i have heard about BM and RdB is true.

Maltese Beauty being fairly new, i'm sure it will be hard time trying to get some cuttings.

I pray my living cuttings will survive!  They show multiple roots in their plastic cups!  But I kinda feel like the weight of the world is on my little shoulders!  Doing my best!!

Suzi

Still, my main concern is for those on the East coast, and how JD and I can help.

I want to see more photos of Black Beauty from this year.  Since several folks posted in this thread who had plants or cuttings started, I'm hoping to get an update from you all.  If you want to send me a fig to sample, that would be fine also, lol.

It really is part of what makes growing these plants so rewarding....the want, the hunt, the finding of those varieties not already in possession.  Then you have the tension of will it or won't it root and grow...the great joy if it does and the sadness if it does not but if not the determination to start all over.

patience is the key to getting what you want.. tho, it will take awhile. to get the fig tree to grow and share the cuttings, it takes anywhere from 2-4 yrs.

I absolutely don't ask this in a derogatory tone but, what qualifies Maltese Beauty to have a name without "unknown" in the name?  I just read above that Maltese Beauty (I WANT, I WANT, I WANT !!!) is an excellent new fig and I see it selling for beaucoup $$$$.   How does a new fig attain a "known" status?
Thanks , Soni
