My un protected figs in zone 6 are still getting ripe fruit even though our temps are getting low and had a few light frost. all were top killed last winter too. im making a list of cold hardy figs that grow well unprotected and still give a crop. 4 years in on research.

Thats really good! Yes, Im thinking about how important it is to keep track of how different varieties do in my zone. I am logging my cuttings and (and figglets...little fig trees?) entering worthwhile details on an excel spreadsheet.

Hi, Pitandiego, wondering what advice u can give me about what labeling method u use for labeling your trees. Eventually i will need to do something. My other fruit trees have either lost their label or its faded to where i cant read it but thats not a problem because i only have ONE orange tree and ONE lemon tree. Eventually I will have several fig trees and i dont want to forget or mix up varieties.

There have been some good threads on this, check these out: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/search?searchid=38651114 You can avoid the fading problem by making soft metal tags and 'denting in' the words when you write them. Oh, and it's 79F and sunny as I type this...

Still ripening figs here in NC as well. My harvested sweet potatoes and white potatoes think it is strong and the figs keep putting on babies. I should get some more satsumas soon too.

Hey Jon, do you label the tree or the pot? I thought about getting some of those tags years ago. How much are they selling for now?

I just bought 2 packs of these:http://www.ebay.com/itm/361307922051?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I fasten them to a limb around eye-level to make it easy to see. They don't seem to oxidize like the older copper ones I tried previously, so will probably switch out all of those for these ones.

This is great, Sarahkt. I upcycle soda cans for my plant markers but they do take some time. They're not hard nor do they cut. http://greylustergirl.com/diy-garden-plant-markers/ They're pretty good that way but these that you found are great because they look good and the price is terrific. Thanks! I will buy some :-D!
