Just today, I read some information about these two varieties. Is there a consensus that these two figs are the same? I would just like to know if there is any new information pro, or con, for this speculation. Frank

I don't know if there is a consensus, but I've certainly seen that comparison ... more than once. If not alike, they must be pretty close.

Gene Hosey who discovered KB speculated that it was the same as NDC. He never determined if they were as he left fig growing in favor of a goat cheese endeavor in NY. Recently Snaglepus mentioned he has them both and believes they are different. Not sure which thread. More info will come in as more people are growing both.

Thanks for posting some thoughts. I hope some new information will settle this conjecture. This Mr. Gene Hosey....doesn't he even check in from time to time with some information? No one knows him well enough to ask him questions, e-mail, phone calls???? Frank

So far those who I've spoken with who have both do not think they are the same. NdC's fig is smaller, for example. I hesitate to quote members without asking for permission.

MG... Thanks for the information...and I understand your reluctance to pass on information without permission. I will think of these figs as the same...for now. Frank EDIT: " I will think of these figs as the same..." Misread information in posting # 5. OK...got it. Close, .... but NOT the same variety. Sorry for my confusion. Thanks, MG...I need to read slower.

No reason to not post information if it is properly disseminated. That is the purpose of this forum.

I'd like to be one of those persons growing both, so if anyone has Noire de Caromb and would like to trade for Kathleen's Black send me a pm.

Is it frowned upon to quote other members without asking them first? I've done that and never thought to ask the person. I'm sorry if I did that and it isn't right to do. Didn't know. noss

In general, if someone writes something publicly, as in another thread on a board that everyone can read, it's OK to quote without permission. But... if someone says something in a private email or pm, it's generally polite (expected) to ask permission before repeating what they said.

As the leave were about to fall, I thought of trying to compare Kathleen's Black to the Noir de Caromb. The first photo is that of Kathleen's Black while the second is that of Noire de Caromb. The difference is obvious. I hope that someone out there could confirm with photos of their leaves.

Thanks for adding more information to this rather, old thread. Looks to me like these two figs are different, judging by the leaf shapes, etc. Frank

My NdC tree came directly from a friend in the UK. This year, I started collect other folks KBs and NdC sold on eBay. Today, I have 3 NC and 3 KBs. One KB is in the ground the others in contaners. This year I got lots of figs from my NdC. I got zero figs from my KBs. All were pinched too. About 4 weeks ago, I pulled one KB inside. It will fruit next year.
I think there is a HUGE mix up with these 2 figs. I do know one thing, my NdC is one of my best tasting black figs in my collection.

JD, Someone had posted pictures of his NDC. Perhaps age has something to do with the leaves pattern. But this is too much of a difference in the leaf pattern. I had to double check my plants and could not find a single leaf that looked like Kathleen's Black . The first photo in the following post confirms what I have. http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1269758259&postcount=1 Take a look at the photo in this post: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1280730837&postcount=15 It would be interesting if you could get in touch locally with Baud and check what his Noire de Caromb looks like.

I forgot to take a picture of Kathleen's Black fruit this year but here's the Noire de Caromb. I just noticed that in the second photo perhaps there was a leaf with five lobes. I find it interesting how leaves with different patterns occur on the same tree.
