This one did not have any splitting problem due to rain. It has a closed eye. The eye has a drop of honey when fully ripe. It has a honey cantaloupe type flavor.
A Syrian man named Matta brought me cuttings I believe from Syria to propagate for him. He told me it's an excellent fig but didn't give me any info. Once the tree rooted I tried to contact him, but he passed away. I named it after him. This is the second year it bears. It seems very productive and fairly early, but I have mine in a container.

It's nice to hear the history behind the figs!  This one looks very fat and juicy, and I love how you described the actual flavor, Bass!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm trying to get this variety back into my collection. I introduced it a few years ago, but 2 years ago I lost it due to the cold as I didn't protect it, and wasn't planted in a good spot.
Anyone has this variety?
