This one did not have any splitting problem due to rain. It has a closed eye. The eye has a drop of honey when fully ripe. It has a honey cantaloupe type flavor.
A Syrian man named Matta brought me cuttings I believe from Syria to propagate for him. He told me it's an excellent fig but didn't give me any info. Once the tree rooted I tried to contact him, but he passed away. I named it after him. This is the second year it bears. It seems very productive and fairly early, but I have mine in a container.

Bass, you and I need to meet along with others to have a fig exchange. I love all the middle eastern varieties! The matta fig looks excellent.

Bass , gotta hand it to ya another light colored fig from the mideast. Look forward to seeing that Ronde in future as i dont think mine will ripeing in time as our Canadien friends have something in store for my area i think later on weather wise.

Bass Thanks for telling me this I will be sure not to give you any of my cuttings to root, otherwise i may drop dead before they root LoL. O f course, just kidding. Very nice fig, are you going to have some cuttings for sale of this variety.

I'm trying to get this variety back into my collection. I introduced it a few years ago, but 2 years ago I lost it due to the cold as I didn't protect it, and wasn't planted in a good spot. Anyone has this variety?
