Balkanlarin Grisi ( Turkish name) is a common fig grown in my backyard. It is small size but very productive and very sweet. This fig tree was grown by my grandfather many years ago and we are so fortunate to inherit this special variety. According to my grandfather, this variety was introduced to our country by the Balkan immigrants who immigrated during the Balkans war. The fruit is one of our family favourite and children's enjoy this sweet, almost like a candied berry flavoured fig very much. A lot of people put emphasis on popular/exotic cultivars, which is great because it highlights some of the better fig varieties; however, I am most interested in the figs our members love regardless of pedigree. Which variety in your collection is the earliest for main crop? And how early is it compared to michurinska 10 ( very common in bulgaria), or to Celeste.
