I tried my first Bayernfeige  today off of my first year plant that I brought  inside to ripen.
It tasted sweet and jammy. It's a keeper.

Looks nice and juicy!
Wonder if it is as cold hardy as they say?

I think that Bayernfeige Violetta, along with LaRadek and several other figs could be a strain of English Brown Turkey. I doubt that they are as hardy as they are claimed to be unless they are in a sheltered location or have some form of winter protection.
B Blomquist did a long term study in Sweden on winter hardiness for quite a few varieties, and BV was on the delete list after several years. From my understanding his location in Sweden wasn't as cold as you would expect but still cold enough to eliminate most of the figs.
The long term results if I recall had Chicago Hardy and Ronde de Bordeaux as two of his most cold tolerant.
His report can be found here:

My sister lives in southern Germany near the Alps, and she said she doubted she could grow figs.  The name of this fig makes me think she probably could.

Bayernfeige is just a marketing gimmick. A name which has been given by german nursery "plattner"... it shall pretend frost and cold hardyness, but in fact its not the best choice for german grower. the german fig-community is really sure that this one is only a brown turkey type. Its a well known problem, that some nurseries give new names to old varities and sell them for more money..unfortunatly it leads to confusion among growers and to duplication an the collection.
