It is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to release cuttings of a tree with a historic cinematic heritage and extraordinary provenance. After trimming the tree last fall, I felt that I needed some time with it before I released cuttings so I could trial it and see how well it would root. Having propagated a large number of cuttings now, I can tell you that this is a terrific rooter, eager to grow and very healthy looking. This guy is 3 months old:
You can check my original post for the story here:
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/the-fig-tree-from-the-godfather-movie-7801937?pid=1290144800
http://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-home/50031-the-fig-tree-from-the-godfather-movie
The one thing I would ask anyone who decides to grows this tree is to
PLEASE NOT SELL ON IT eBAY. If you are looking to buy it to sell it please don't buy it . That was never my intent for this tree, this is a tree for the enjoyment of the collectors. I would love to keep it in our forums based fig enthusiast world and then we can all have something special between us. If you grow an extra one and would like to give it to a family member or a good fig friend, that's fine, just let them know what this plant is all about.
It is a wonderful story of where the tree came from, how it was used, as well as how it is being saved and immortalized . I would love to make these cuttings available to all who will truly appreciate this tree for what it is.
Cuttings are $10.00 each plus $7.00 shipping per package , with a maximum of 4 so everyone can get a shot at it as they are somewhat limited. The cuttings are quite nice with at least 3-4 nodes on them . I also waxed the ends last fall and they have been properly stored since then.

Great deal! I am out of space to root more cutting at the moment but I would be interesting in rooted cutting if any one ends up with extras. I will have some extras of my own to trade in late spring.

Hi Coop. Thank you. Sent an order through Paypal with the message as requested. By "gift" did you mean to send under "Friends and Family"? I did not notice a "gift" tab and used that tab. Mike

Garden, There was a suggestion from a very well respected member of of the fig community in one of the threads that it is a Sal's Corleone. Is that what you are making reference to.

I'm very excited about getting this wonderful tree out there. I have never made any presumptions on what variety this is. What I do know is that the production company brought the plant in from Sicily Italy, and it was used in the movie. I think some of the fun of all this is finding out what it may be. This is why I've only referred to this tree as "The Fig Tree From The Godfather Movie"

Do you know which movie and what scenes the tree was in? I am not a "The Godfather" movie expert, the only trees I remember is when Marlon Brando was in his backyard with his grandson playing, he was eating an orange before he died. I can't remember what the trees looked like. Just watched it - he was among his tomatoes, no fig tree in that scene:(

I think this is the link
I see pine trees and oak trees along the back fence, I don't see a fig tree. I just might HAVE to watch it AGAIN - I've seen it least 20 times - I lost count LOL LOL

Two out of three have rooted and are potted up and growing good. The 3rd cutting is still looking good but is stuck in fig limbo.
I'm going to give it another week then if nothing starts then I'll recut it to see if it will trigger it into sending out some roots.

Has anyone seen the fruit from this tree? I am more interested in the actual fruit that it produces than it's movie star status. If it produces great figs then the movie star status makes it an excellent tree :)

My cuttings are in water, they have tons of initials and I think I'm starting to see tiny roots. Hopefully I will pot them in petite and put in the shade outside when it warms up. I promised one to my dear friend who lost a lot in hurricane Sandy. I'm looking forward to sharing our Godfather fig stories.

Peter C, sorry your landscape was destroyed by Sandy. The water came up from the beach and stopped about 3 blocks away from our house on our street during Sandy. Good luck with the Godfather tree!
