Planted the cuttings in 100% pearlite in 2 liter pop bottles this Wed. I set out in sun shine during day and in my shop at night . Lots of moisture in dome while outside. Cold here this week in Tn. warmer next week, I hope. This method is a pain in the #%$#!! to do so It's a one time deal for me. Going to plant some cuttings directly in potting soil flour beds next week about 2-3" under the mix some vertical others horizontal to try that out. I need something easy and not time heavy. I may try air layering later this summer if no cuttings take root.

If there are no roots at 5 weeks I take the cutting out and use fresh rooting media if it's still viable.  I keep temps in the 78 degree F area.  If the cuttings are cold (69 degrees F) they may never root.  I'm assuming your bottle has holes in the bottle for drainage.  I put a pinch or three of peat moss on top of my perlite to provide some organic acids that may help rooting.

Hi,
First, if you put the bottles full sun, you'll be cooking the cuttings ... That was not your goal, or ?
So just find a warm spot inside the house (here outside we hover between -2°C and 6°C so not warm enough) - temperature is the key especially if they have no leaves.
Once they start breaking buds, then start to worry about lighting .

For the cuttings in the ground, now is a good time to start them, so go ahead.
BUT, never horizontal, never vertical, but insert the sticks with an angle . That will allow water to both reach the whole cutting -top to bottom- and drain - no standing/sticking water .

Don't forget to keep the area moist until September. Don't let them dry out too much, nor drown them.
As a reference, watering the square meter of dirt centered on the sticks twice a week, will/should be enough.

They will take some time to break bud and develop . Just LET THEM DO. Don't move them for the next 1 or 2 years.
Don't go taking them out every now and then (to check for whatever - rot, roots, mold ...) ... Subscribing to a yoga course may help...

Good luck!

Thanks for the info Alan. I hope to start my first cuttings soon - just need to get some first. Looking for honey fig variety on eBay or if someone wants to share with me one to try.
