I have a beautiful Che tree.   Lots of berries again this year.   Last year they all disappeared overnight so I am keeping a close eye on them this year.  They are only the size of peas so far.  

I would love to multiple this tree without grafting since none of my grafts have ever worked out.   Has anyone ever airlayered Che?    

What about the success of those Airlyer devices.   Anyone think they are better than simply plastic and foil?    I might try one if it is better.   I live in very hot and dry climate and need help keeping airlayer moist to get roots.  Should have started earlier, but there may be a few weeks left before it gets unbearable.

I have used both, if you warp it properly and keep moisture at a good level they are the same, the devices tend to be small.  I have seen people use 1 gallon milk guys to make layers, my advice would be to skip the devices and do it yourself and save some money.

The doves like Che and grapes. As soon as they see color they're there. My Che is in pot and a very slow grower. How old was your tree before it started to produce?

I got mine from a local grower. He said no one knows about it or asks for it in long time except me. It was quite large. It produced in 1st season after I got it but all berries disappeared but probably not from birds because they were far from ripe. Still a mystery so I'm keeping an eye on the every day. Just took a picture of it. Berries have now turned from green to yellow.

Congratulations!

The doves have been attacking my unripe grapes. Put a net and see what happens.

I have a couple of Che. I found they graft easy to osage orange, I used a cleft graft and had 100% take.
I took about 3-4 years before they would keep a crop of fruit. The early years they would set fruit but drop along the way. 
Best to eat them only when you touch them and they fall off. Otherwise they are insipid to me.

I'm keeping mine in a pot for now, just in case I move. How do they compare to mulberry?
