Hi guys,
I just finished looking through all my photos. I found those of my Negretta. Although the leaves do favor this fig they are not the same. My old Negretta was the same one that Martin had. The inside pulp was light yellow and no where close to this fig. So, this fig is not Negretta. Will post pics next year of tree in the ground. So, the jury isn't out yet on this fig.

Dennis..... whatever it is, it's figs are a beautiful, rich looking color. If the flavor profile comes anywhere close to what it looks like and apparently FMV free or nearly so then it is a desirable variety in my book. Names are useful and necessary when communicating about a variety with others however .... at the end of the day, for me, its about what a fig tastes like that counts and if it is a nice looking fig, all that much better. As has been stated eloquently by others, its a matter of personal taste and one mans coal may be another mans gold. You only need to consider whether the fig pleases you... if so and it has no known pedigree then assign it as an unk with whatever descriptive label you will so you can communicate and discuss it with others... I see no harm or foul in that...

Well I know it's not GN. And that's ok. I have one of those trees any way. But it does favor that fig that Jason found years ago which isn't Black Ischia.

Hi, I'm still a newbie and noticed your post, if you don't mind could I ask a few questions? I saw the picture with you next to the tree and that was a great size comparison. Do you know how cold sensitive it is?Do you know any more history and is it protected at all during the winter?
Thanks

Thanks for the great pics Dennis...chance to live vicariously through you (I never run across any figs up here in Maine...shocking isn't it, but I still look anyway...fig addiction hard wires a person).  Exciting find!
