What garden hose do you like? I went through about 3 of the self retracting hoses that you see on TV I was pretty gentle with them kept them out of direct sunlight but after about a month each one of them blew out the side I picked up this Zero-G a few months ago at Lowes and I am really liking it it doesn't retract but when you shut the water off it becomes very soft and very easy to roll up you could roll it up like a rope it has very nice heavy duty brass ends its guaranteed for 5 years so far I love it __________________ Connecticut - Zone 6B Wish List - Bordissot negra rimada

I use the orange color air compressor hose. Best hose ever. Mine is probably 10 years old __________________ RICHIE BONI HICKORY LOUISIANA ZONE 8B WARM HUMID WINRERS ARE VERY MILD LOW 20'S BUT WARMS RIGHT UP DURING THE DAY. stay away from that self retracting hose in picture, poor connector design, I had two, both was broken ( blown out) ends in 1 week. __________________ - BC, Canada, PNW Zone 8 with windy ( Zone7 - branches damage at winter) - Wish list - Granthams Royal, RdB, any heavy breba varieties or early one crop varieties.

Rubber, stupid heavy hose, pain in the butt. 5th year Everything else, 10 yr warrantee, HD, Lowes, WalMart. All fails within 6 months. Usually within 2 weeks they would leak. The black sucks and will mark up the paint in your house when you hang it up. Yeeha, there's #1 for you, lol. Mike

I have a heavy duty retractable hose. It has metal fittings, and this is its second year of use. It is much easier for me to carry and store, and it means not having to lug the hose and cart up and down my basement stairs __________________ Danielle: Massachusetts, zone 5

Hi Dave I use the regular old heavy hoses from sears (guaranteed for life), but my wife has both the pocket hose (for around the patio) and two Zero G hoses. She has had the pocket hose for two years now, but initially had to replace it three times because it exploded. The way she uses it solves the exploding problem. She has a spray nozzle on the end, but NEVER closes it completely, so no pressure builds up in the hose. When shutting the hose off she moves the sprayer setting to mist, so that when the hose is turned back the pressure does not build up. The hose is merely a conduit for water. It has worked fine for two years. She likes it because it's so lightweight. She also likes the Zero G and when the pocket hose does go, she will replace it with that.

I use a plain old hose. The water pressure at our house is pretty high. Most home water is about 50 to 70 psi. I measured ours a while back at 125 psi. I blowout the hose every 2 years or so. I should have installed a pressure reducer years ago. I was at Lowe's the other day and saw a hose rated at 500 psi. My next hose

ok I'm going to throw one more thing out there I started using these quick disconnect I love them, but one thing you have to watch out for when buying them the first one I bought at my local Ace hardware store excellent made out of solid brass no leaks or drips well I happen to be at the Home Depot and wanted to pick up some more for some others hoses and nozzles after getting them home and unpacking them they felt odd very light well come to find out they were made out of aluminum and anodized to look like brass I used them anyway and after about 5 months I noticed one of the male ends leaking when I disconnected it from the house the aluminum was all pitted which caused the leak if you buy them make sure you get the brass ones __________________ Connecticut - Zone 6B Wish List - Bordissot negra rimada

Hi Dave, Doesn't it take you forever to water your trees ? I tried one of those pocket hoses ... Never ever ! I could sleep by each tree waiting for them to get their share of water. The diameter of that stuff is so thin that the quantity of water coming out is not enough ... in my books at least. So I use a standard watering-hose. Of course, there are some a bit broader, but because of the cost, I had to stick to the thinner one. If like me, you have to rush , go for the broader watering hose ... or you'll wait longer for the desired amount of water to reach the trees ... It seems obvious ... but it is even more when you're by your trees waiting and bad-mouthing that damn hose, damn heat, damn time, damn ... __________________ ------------------------ Climate from -25°C to + 35°C Only cold hardy figtrees can make it here

One time purchase of a 1/2 air compressor hose or decent quality and your done. Like i said mine is 10 years old. Its either a 50 or a 100. Have to check. I was at Home Depot today, and overheard the garden area person say that they have had about a 90% return rate on the expandable hoses that they sell. I like the cheap black ones at Walmart. Much better price, and they last 6-7 years. I usually have to redo the ends on them a couple times, but they are nice and flexible and inexpensive. What's in your hose? Most hoses have lead and all kinds of plasticizer chemicals leaching into the water and available to the fig tree. Some have antimicrobial chemicals as well. Good luck with your beneficial soil microbes and mycorrhizal fungi with that. Repeated applications may cause those things to accumulate in the plant and possibly the fruit. I use this hose and 1 other drinking water safe hose to get me to the length I need. This has been outside 24/7 for 4 years without failure. I leave my outdoor spigot on all the time except in the winter. I have a brass shut off valve at the end.
