Hello
Was the recipient of super looking Panache fig tree over the weekend.
This air layer was started some time in May and is 4' tall, perfectly formed with 4 equally spaced side branches and complete with some figlets.
I thought I better take a some photos of it now so I have to compare it next year.  This is the best air layer I have ever seen.
Kudos to Luzzu (Raffaele) for a super job on growing this fig tree! panache air layer IMG_1647.jpg

Follow up on last year's Luzzu Panache air layer.
2nd year and it generously produced 8 figs and has ripened 3 already!
Easy to see why Panache is such a favourite!

Hi,
Congrats !
Mine lost 4 figs. They shriveled and fell off. My tree seems to develop some new thick stems and giving up on some former branches.
Did you have that problem with your panaché ?

Jdsfrance,
Panache are new for me.  Also 2nd year figs many times seem to shine and then disappoint in 3rd year and then they come back again on their schedule.

This air layer grew 6" each of 3 branches and loaded up with figs.  The hot dry weather coupled with my watering  put it in under a lot stress and it yellowed and dropped some of the lower leaves and some figs.  Most figs stayed on and they are ripening and so sweet and tasty!

Nice job! Its good to know what Panache tastes great, I was under the assumption that it was more about the striped figs.

Thanks Meg, Tony and Becky!

The stripes on Panache do make the fig look very unique!

But don't underestimate the taste.
They are a nice size and very sweet and nice flavour.

Here is a photo of Panache and some other figs today and many more figs ripening!
