I am a Type 2 Diabetic. I'm not the bastion of self control at this point concerning my diet but I started drinking fig leaf tea in the evenings and for about a week now my morning numbers are down on average about 20 points.  It's not scientific and my numbers were higher one morning as I'd eaten dinner very late one evening, but it seems to be working. Anyone else with a testimonial? Thanks.

You might be on to something -a trial study is needed.
2 weeks with and two weeks without, Then make a chart and write down the values each morning.

Maybe other members can suggest other trial regimens.

A member did an experiment with his friend with good results. I don't know all the the details but apparently drinking fig leaf tea is helping to lower his numbers. Whatever amount it is, even if it is only ten points lower I'm sure that is a great benefit. Maybe he will chime in with the details.

There seems to be talk that drinking fig leaf tea lowers diabetes. The way it's done is to soak 2 or 3 leaves in boiling water for 15 minutes to an hour then let cool and drink the tea preferably in the AM. Among other claims, it regulates women menstrual cycles and fights cancer. These claims are all over Youtube in multiple languages, but they don't quote any scientific research.

Other claims:

Drinking leaf tea before meals helps in losing weight as it make you feel full.
It helps digestion and treats digestion problems including constipation.
Reduces Cholesterol.
Improves circulation.
Treats infections of the lungs.
Good for Arthritis.
Treats skin sores.

I've seen these claims made with other tree leaves.

It should be interesting to hear from someone who actually tried this.

First, I am a family physician with an interest in treating DM.  When I first heard this claim, I tried to look up any research on the subject.  There was only one paper published about a small clinical trial with a relatively small number of patients by some Spanish researchers.  It was actually a crossover study and in each part of the trial the group drinking fig leaf tea had numbers that were a little lower.  A bigger study would be needed to prove the claims, but it is interesting info.

Second, this is less scientific.  A good friend became diabetic 2 years ago and I discussed this with him.  He started himself on a steady regimen of fig leaf tea (and some other herbal products and chromium supplements daily) and swears that checking his sugars before and after drinking the tea shows a consistent improvement in numbers.  He is a RN who teaches in a nursing school, and I believe his personal testimony on the subject.  He did drop a lot of weight and exercises now, but is on no meds and his sugars are now well controlled, A1c dropped from over 12 to under 7.  He hates the taste of the tea but makes himself drink it because of the improvement.  Professionally, I think losing the 80 lbs made the biggest difference, but cannot discount the effect of the fig leaf tea. 

I personally drink iced tea made from fig leaves and mint regularly but am not following my sugars.

Hello!
Many people know here I do have a leukemia and I grow figs, because I find out they could cure leukemia..But..My health got worst, not because of figs, but because of my work, so I have all symptoms of diabetes.. And feel myself real bad...So, I look all info.. And try pills what you can get in pharmacy or on Ebay Cinnamon plus Chromium, Biotin.   Vitamins B 1, 2, 3, 6,  12, Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Iodine, Selenium, Copper, Molybdenum, L -Tyrosine, Schisandra powder, Ashwaganda root powder, Bladderwrack powder, Cayenne pepper, Kelp. Other pill have Calcium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Guggul GumOleo Resin Extract, L-Tyrosine, Phosphalidyl Choline..
I try those pills and in 3 weeks I real start feel better..
I add figs leaves and mulberry leaves when I boil all other herbs when I real feel myself bad and they seems helping..

I'm a big believer in Bay leaves tea, That's why I'll always have a tree in my yard or in pot. It's the Mediterranean Bay leaf tree or Laurus nobilis (also used in cooking).
The benefits are too many to list here. I've used it successfully for digestion problems, but don't know about the other claims. Those claims state that the tea is wonderful for fighting many ailments including cancer, diabetes, strokes, heart disease, just to name a few, but make sure that you have the right tree as some varieties of Bay leaf trees are toxic.

" Bay leaves have been directly connected with improved insulin receptor function and regulated blood sugar levels. For patients at risk of developing diabetes or for those who have already developed the condition, regular consumption of bay leaves can significantly lower the chances of diabetic episodes."

For those who don't think they can keep up a regimen of tea every day but are already in the habit of taking medicine each day, I would suggest fig leaf capsules.

TheASTrader:  Your suggestion about capsules got me a little curious.  Doing a very quick internet search I didn't see any fig leaf capsules, but I do see dried fig powder ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/322293706330?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true ) and I know you can buy empty capsules ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/empty-gelitan-capsulres-and-The-Capsule-machine-and-250-gel-capsuels-size-1-/191372855855?hash=item2c8eb60a2f:g:830AAOxy63FS5Bgh ) to make your own pills.  With all the trees members have and a dehydrator, a lot of money could be saved doing it yourself.

Now I'm curious about the benefits of a fig leaf tincture.  You could always add a tincture to warm water to make a tea.  Making your own tincture saves big $$$$$$.
