Hi all. I have my potted Kadota in the attached garage for the winter. How often do you water? Just when the soil gets dry? Thanks.

For a small tree, 1 cup of water once a month just to keep roots from drying out too much.  I've also had trees that I didn't water AT ALL during the entire winter and they all did fine.

Yes, don't let it get bone dry, nor wet, it needs to be moist. What I do is check the first of the month. You should only need to water about once a month or less. My figs do extremely well in the garage.

My one tree in a 15 gallon pot that I store in my cold cellar gets watered once a month. My cold cellar has the same consistent temperature all winter and I have found that it is always good and dry when I wait a full month to water my tree.  I give it a whole 1 gallon/4 litre jug of water.  Lots of the water runs right through as soon as I water.

Been working just fine for me.
