Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself to this forum as i am new. My name is Mike, I am currently stationed at Fort Lewis, WA and I have been active duty since I was 17 years old. I have been deployed a few times and have been to numerous places around the glove. I am now 37 and will retire in 2 years. That will be a little over 22 years in uniform. I have 2 boys, 10 and 7 years old and happily married.
I love to fish and hunt big game animals with my bow and lately I have been reading about figs in this forum and I am intrigue by this plant. I think i found me a new healthy hobby, I cant wait to begin and I am looking forward to the adventures ahead with Fig trees.
I see a lot of collectors on here are having a great time growing plants and posting the friuts of their labor. I hope to do the same. I am also hoping to interact and learn from this forum as I am student when it comes to Figs.
I have a confession to make... I have never in my life ever tasted fresh Figs before ( im sure that the Fig Newtons out of MREs dont even come close). I hope to grow my own trees and taste my very first fig ever. Happy new year to all of Figs4fun members!
If any of you have some cuttings/plants you want to share, I will be very happy to recieve them and begin this Fig adventure! Thank you in advance.

Welcome Mike! I myself served for 12 years. Both Air Force and Army. This is my first year trying to grow figs. Right now I have 25 cuttings in small pots rooting now. I've only been on the forum for a short time, but I can tell you that there is a load of good info here. Good luck in your growing endeavors!

Hi Mike, Welcome. Thank you for your service to our country. You are a stones throw from me. There are a number of members who live in Washington. We were all new at one time. Great people, and such a wealth of information on this forum. If you have been reading for a while you may have found the search feature, which is great so that when you begin rooting cuttings you can search "which way up" so you wont plant the cutting upside down. Also, topics are pinned at the top, I would highly recommend reading. Fig collecting can be very additive. Start slow and figure out what you want. There are so MANY varieties, it can be overwhelming . You will want to start with what grows and produces well where you live. For this area, one of those is the Desert King, of which I would be happy to give you one of my plants. It is currently tucked away for the winter in the shop. It will need to be up-potted in the spring.

As it is, that is a place I'm lucky enough to visit only on holidays. A tiny villa my cousin built on an old family homestead in Sicily. My Views lately look much more snowy. Often beautiful.....just not very fig-friendly.
Yes, the figs are delicious!

Welcome! Thank you for defending us. Lack of sunshine (short days) and cool temps are your biggest problems Having a greenhouse or grow room will help you get more and better figs.

Welcome to the forum, Thank you for serving our country! Be warned this does turn into an obsession. I too had never tasted a fresh fig until I decided to order a Negronne 2 yrs ago, I had a few not ripe enough figs the first year but this year from that Negronne I must have had 35 to 40 wonderful figs. I currently have more cuttings already growing & others to start, thanks to some generous figgers & purchases. There is great info on the forum from experienced growers.
________________________________________________________ Brenda zone 6b East Tn I have in pots Celeste, Negronne, CdD Gris cuttings started this yr Sumacki (I hope), Alma & Brooklyn White. Wish list: Rose Noire, LSU Hollier, Green Ischia, Rmali, Battaglia Green, Italian Golden Honey, RDB, Matta, Red Lebanese or any that do well in this area.
