Pete, if you can't make it by fall, give me a shout.  I usually ship stuff once daytime highs drop below the 80s.  If you happen to be anywhere within 15 minutes or so of I-285 (like Stone Mountain), I am happy to try meet up if you can give me some advanced notice.

i'll be pruning mine in spring. i'm sending out 3 cuttings and saving couple for back up. if you don't get an offer, i might be able to share one.

Hi Jason.  I work in Newnan, but live a little south of there in Troup county.  I have lived pretty much all over Georgia during my lifetime, including not too far from where you are now, when I was at Georgia Tech.

About 2 years ago I re-found figs.  Man, did I miss them!

Thanks Pete!  I'll let you know.

IF this list is still going. I would take any cutting that will do in Zone 5, 50 miles south of Chicago. I have a Chicago hardy I bought at the Local Lowe's for $2.00. So don't know if I got a pig in a poke or if it is actually a good fig or not.

I don't enough about different figs to post a top six list. I guess some would be.
1. Mission Black
2. Marselle vs Black
3. Black Cleste
4.Italian Honey
5. English Brown Turkey, not Turkey fig.
6. Anything Hardy for Zone 5

Welcome to the forum, mike! In the spirit if the thread, please post a wishlist of the six most intruiging varieties for you personally, you never know when an opportunity may come to have a wish fulfilled.  You may choose to do what some others do, periodically coming back in and editing your wish list as you obtain varieties in your list.

Just a friendly note - having a signature three times as long as an average post is poor form on most forums (bad forum netiquette). It would make threads easier to read if you could condense down to 3-4 lines.  Welcome just the same!

Bugs..when you say Strawberry do you mean Strawberry Verte or Strawberry Jam?   And it could be that I don't know there is one just called "strawberry".

Thanks, Sara

Edit: 8/18--from Bug's note he is seeking a fig that tastes like strawberry jam..so wouldn't that be the strawberry jam plant, or possibly panachee?

There are several figs with 'strawberry' in the name.

Want to get really confused?  See this thread and note post #59 on page 2.

I don't know if you confused Sara but, you really have me confused.

Sara I just read of other members in the forum talking about a fig tasting like jam and was calling them strawberry fig. There just so many fig by the same name. I do not know what  is the difference between them. But if you have either or both I would be great full if you wanted to share. PM me with details.

Thanks Bugs

Pratt Purple (Still looking)
Col De Dame Noir (Still looking)
Bass #8
Bass #7
Bass #5

Violette Soleis (May order one soon)

I'm sure a lot of people don't know about the Bass numbered varieties yet, I'm not sure they're in circulation at this point (only Bass would know).

Hey Alan,

What type of figs do good for you in Vermont?Thank you

udaman

Alan,

I live near Bennington, the southern tip of Vermont.  My son lives in Burlington, and I've promised him some cuttings.

All ten of my trees were overwintered last year in my cold cellar.  I brought them into the cellar in October, after they went dormant, and put them in the coolest part of the cellar.  It stays between 35-40 deg F all winter.  I brought them out in early April, gave them a good drink of water, and they had leaf buds in a week.

I haven't had any problems so far, except that the cuttings I made last summer didn't survive the winter.  I think the root system was not large enough to carry them through dormancy.

I have, Atreano, Sal's #1, Marseilles VS black, Triana, blk Paridiso, Violette de Bordeaux and Brown Turkey.

Is this a good time to start  new thread: 6 Cuttings On A Wish List /2011  ?

Kerry
In my view it is better to update the individual wish list in the current thread (showing Edit Date:xxxxx) above the list.

Starting a new list may leave out many whose wishlist is still valid but may not be able to re-list in the new thread.

But that is just my opinion.

It's just about "cuttings time" so here are my six:

1) Ronde de Bordeaux
2) JR Sicilian Black
3) Native Black
4) Kathleen's Black
5) Martin's Black
6) Smith - mine was a casualty of Hurricane Irene :(
