This is a special Thanksgiving for my family. I was able to locate my brother's long lost second son on Facebook. His older brother and I have never met him. Both are coming to my house tomorrow for the first time. They have different mothers. We've always known he exist but never met him or knew where he was. I got lucky searching on Facebook and asked him a few questions and learned that was him! My brother (his father) passed away at a very young age of 43 in 1994. All of my sisters and their kids are coming. We have so much to be thankful of!

To everyone,

Have a wonderful thanksgiving all fellow figsters.
I know I have so much to be thankful for.

Dennis,
What a wonderful story!  Today I was thinking of you.  I was feeling a little tired so I had a PBJ with some of your fig jam.  Now that is a pick me up.  Yum  Tasted like you may have added a little lemon to balance the sweet..

25 pound bird defrosting.. Roast it in a roasting pan with a rack, breast side down, rubbed with butter and sea salt inside and out. Put a remote thermometer in the thickest part of the breast and roast at 350f. Take itt out at 185f and let it rest for 20-30 minutes. Use the fat and more butter to make a roux/rue. ( 1/4 cup of flour mixed with fat and butter to make sauce over heat until it slightly darkens. That indicates the flour is cooked). Add milk and rehydrated drippings to the rue to make gravy over heat while stirring. Eat.. A lot Pass out..repeat.

Happy turkey day Thanksgiving, the day where you show your thanx for what you have. The day after Called black Friday where you trample and fight people for the things you don't have. Great new Dennis, sounds like a special day about to take place.

We are expecting 5-7 inches of rain here in Sonoma County over the next few days, lots of time to spend with the grandkids, and much to be thankful for. I wish you all a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving To All My Fig Friends..................

I hope that you All my fig-friends did have a nice Thanksgiving day yesterday ...
I just had one of my best Thanksgiving days ever in my own home!
My whole immediate family[icon1] was present;
my son + wife with our mischief baby grand-son (terrible 2's) and twin grand-daughters (< 1 yr).

Also my daughter with her fiance[icon1].

We had both cooked turkey and ham for main dishes[icon1] (2 sittings),
plus a lot of other goodies. We all got really stuffed!

We lost power the night before and woke up to about 8" of wet heavy snow.  My sons were home from college and we decided to celebrate in place as much of our extended family were in the same boat.  I ended up roasting the turkey on the gas grill while cooking sides over a camp fire.  We ate a beautiful dinner and when the power came back last night I washed the mountain of dishes.  It  really ended up being one of the best turkeys I've cooked, but hopefully I'll never have to do that again.  Not sure how many people are still without power from that storm.

Well, it was an awesome thanksgiving!  Here are the 2 brothers meeting for the first time!!!!  On the left is Marcus and on the right is Broderick.

I cook 95% of all the food, Smoked Turkey, Dressing, giblet gravy, Rice, green beans, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce from the can, Fig Compote (this was the hit of the meal), pound cake, sweet potato pie, cranberry blitz bars and a ton of other goodies!!!  Here is a pic of me and my 2 nephews.  I'm in the yellow shirt.  My 2 sons are on my right.

We had a wonderful time!  It was truly a blessing!  and yes, I cried!  This was a very special Thanksgiving for me and my Brother's sons.  Even though my brother is no longer with us, he has blessed us with one awesome family!  This is what Thanksgiving is all about.

Gloria, you are welcome to come next year!  We had way too much food!  Everybody took food home.  I even washed up all the dishes and cleaned up everything.  My wife organized the 3 tables of food and seating.  I think my brother would be proud of his 2 sons.  I know I am.  Broderick has 5 children and one grand baby!  His 19 yo daughter and baby were not in the photo.  They must have been downstairs with others.  His brother, Marcus gained a brother and a bunch of nieces and nephews!  We had a wonderful time.  It was the best Thanksgiving ever.
