It's a bit uglier than I expected on the outside, but the jammy inside looks lovely. Did you enjoy it? |

Oh cool, thanks for explaining why they have dark spots like that! I had wondered why some yellow and green figs look a bit blotchy in pictures I have seen. |
Looks great Pino. CDDB has such an excellent colour. I am so lucky that I was just gifted a CDDB that is producing figs. With some luck I will be tasting some next year. There are some figs left on the tree that will not ripen so I cut one open and I can't believe how good the flesh looks.
If the figs have started to swell and if you have a south facing window there is a lot of sun this time of year and they could ripen. |
Oh cool, thanks for explaining why they have dark spots like that! I had wondered why some yellow and green figs look a bit blotchy in pictures I have seen.
I have difficulty determing when green figs (like Desert King, CdDB, Paradiso) are ripe. They don't droop and soften like the other figs I have. In the case of CdD Blanc I think by the time it softens it is over ripe like this one. |

I would be interested to see that feedback. I got a desert king this year in trade and just assumed that it would droop like pictures of sucrette that I had seen and that the softness of the next would determine ripeness. It's fascinating how various cultivars have different characteristics I'm terms of when they taste the best, number years, point in cycle etc. It truly cannot be said that they are not unique, save for a few examples I have seen like with mount Etna's. But even then when compared against each other I have seen subtle differences reported. |
