I am in love.

Pretty cool here (I now, I know - but for us, it was) and pretty much all figs tasted poorly or worse. This one, however, was fabulous - sweet, tasty, everything you want in a fig, and it is late October. Even Black Madeira did not taste this good, today (had 1-1/2 today, #5 and #6 for the season if you are counting).

It certainly looks incredible!

i got a dauphine from bass :).  hope it's the same as yours.

I had a (plain - UCD) Dauphine for a quite while ... it still needs to
give me a single fig! Will wait one more year, else it is history.

Not the same as Dauphine from UC, which has definitely fruited here, and is a nice fig.

Looking for Violette Dauphine for sooooo ling time, will you advise where I can place an order of tricks or plants? thanks.

How does this Violette Dauphine perform for you?  I've wanted this variety for a long time.  Now that I am in Colorado, I'm not sure it is still a good fit.  Is it an early ripening fig?

I bought one last fall - first time my hands could land on one.
The leaves were a bit more silky on the upper side, but could be due to the growing conditions of my small tree. It was 50cm / 2' with 4 stems and grown in a container - starting to suffer from that condition but still good looking.
I'm in Zone7 . I chose Violette Dauphine because french books and references have it that VD is cold hardy.
I may get some figs this year, but more surely the next one. VD should make 2 crops .
This past (theoretically past, because temps are still a bit colder than I would like ) winter was mild, but still VD seems to have fared well.
All terminal buds are green - so no one lost on that cultivar .
I hope mine will come out that good !

Gina, it looks like he is a neighbor of yours...LA CA.

The mother tree is a very strong grower with abandoned fruiting habit both in Breba and Main crop occasions.
We are growing 6 in pots now but there are many cuttings from January 2015 in the fridge which will be rooted later.
They grow very well in our LA climate.

Edit: The pictures in post #1 don't make justice to the variety.

Here are photos of my Violette Dauphine for comparison. I included photos of the leaf variations from my tree. The first leaf below is from the immature tree in 2012. The leaf appears more deeply lobed and serrated. The leaves in the other photo represent the more dominant shape as of 2014. They are quite large and three to five lobes. FigWhisperer, hard to say if our Violette Dauphines are of the same variety. The difference may be that your figs are caprified given your location. Nevertheless, this has been a very productive and exceptional fig for my location. I am growing this fig in a container. It has a tendency to grow some limbs downward. It would make a great espalier.

Please don't shorten the names !
There is indeed a "Dauphine" and a different strain names "Violette Dauphine" .
One is said to be a San Pedro and the other is said to be a common type, and in my Zone7 that makes a huge difference of 1 crop VS 2 crops .

Despite its small size, my top Breba fig for the summer of 2015 is the Dauphine! It is not a (Violette).
When ripe it has a pinkish yellow color.
It might have the smallest fruit of all my figs but when it comes to flavor, its punch is unlike any other I have.
