What is this red circled thing?
Is it going to be a breba?
Should I cut it off??
This is on the one labeled "Hardy Chicago".

its a figlet you should cut it off because if you leave it on the plant will use alot of it's stored energy on making the fig larger when the plant should be focusing all it's energy on root and leaf development, welcome to the forum,  Will

or just snap it off.  cutting can be dangerous.

In the first yr or two, you want energy  to be directed towards the growth and structure of the tree.  For me, I would remove all breba fruit and leave maybe 1 or 2 of the main crop. Next yr slowly increase by leaving 1 or 2 breba and maybe 3 to 6 of the main crop.

You eventually  want a balance of growth, root mass, and fruit.  If you leave too many fruit on,  energy could be diverted to fruit that should be going towards growth. It could then die of exhaustion.

@Pami...you and I are in the same phases.  I sat and watched a green bump for a few days trying to figure out if it was a breba or leaf.  Am now quite good at recognizing the leaves!!  No figlets YET!  But I am like a mother hen watching my plants and cuttings.   Have to go stay with my Mom for a few weeks and am loading all my figs in the car with me, as I do not trust my hubby (newborns here!!)    Take care.

I hope I don't have to go anywhere for any length
of time- I'm with you!  I don't want to have to trust
anyone else to take care of my babies!!  Hope you
have computer access at Mom's- to keep us updated!
