Is there any fig trees that have a very serrated leaf? I saw a bush that resembled a fig with leaves that had little points all around. I really need to learn how to put pics on the computer. If there is maybe someone can post a pic, thanks.

Serrated margins in figs are fairly common. Incised in a mature plant...not so much. Perhaps the Afghanistanica fig. Just do a search here for it and you will see photos. A pic would be helpful. |

Serrated means 'saw like' like 'wwwww'. Just like the normal 'cross-cut' or 'rip' ones - forget the exotic tree felling chain-saw, etc... Guess what the 3 leaves in the pic are from....

Hi Luke. Sorry that I'm not a " Expert " and may not know the proper Botanical definition of what you meant when you wrote " Serrated or Saw toothed leaves " Please accept my sincere apology . I am fairly new to both fig collecting, and proper identification, please forgive my brashness as I only desired to possibly contribute to your thread. If my photos above are in-fact what you meant to describe, they are as follows: First Two: Ficus Afghanistanica. Next two: Ice Crystal. Bottom four;. Esphahanian Iranian Fig.

Hey Nick,
Thanks for the names of the figs. I need to go back and ask the owner about these. As far as I know they might not even be a fig bush. I thank everyone who gives input, for this is how I'm learning. Nick, there is no reason for an apology. I love the site because everyone is willing to help with answers and their kind opinions. Its all good.

You perfectly guessed #3. Sooory, but you win nothing ... as nothing was offered...
Besides, you already got your Wuhan... These are the 3 leaves. #1 & 2, I say that they are "serrated"; but not sure what to call #3 - maybe "lacey" ? #1: A (small) leaf off my Wuhan fig (SSE-LA MC R 06). #2: A leaf off one of my few (tropical) Hibiscus (yeah, I grow some of those too). #3: A leaf off one of my 2 (different but decorative) F. afghanistanica (Forest Farms). |

Luke, my guess is-Oakleaf Hydrangea. They have tricked my eyes plenty of times at ten paces. Add the fact that there are ten times as many planted as figs and it is a certainty that a fig hunter will have their hopes dashed eventually. Notice that the leaves are arranged opposite rather than alternate. |

Mine was Johannes. Afghanistanica is simimlar, though more crenelated. |
