A couple of days ago, one of my pride and joy figs was starting to ripen.  It's Noire de Caromb.  This fig needed about 3 more days to ripen but I was just curious so I picked it.  Pretty fig, plenty more on my tree getting ripe now.  Time to stand guard with my gun!  Enjoy!

Hey Dennis ,

Have you looked into putting up an electric fence ? I picked one up with all the parts for a 15 x 40 area for about $ 200 . The power unit can do up to 15 miles worth of wire and you only need to go up to a height of 18 inches or so for raccoons .
Now for birds , I guess you'll need a net .

My tree came from Europe.  Here is the leaf pattern of my tree.  I picked 3 more figs today.  Yes I do have Kathleen Black.  One in a pot and one in my orchard.  John, the coons are back.  Heck it may even be possums!  I know I kill off a few with rat poison but I stopped putting that out.  Next year I will be installing a 20 net enclosure around my fig garden.  Something is eating my figs at night.  It's either a coon or possum.  They are knocking over my containter plants trying to get to the ripe figs.  I wish I had a way to enclose my entire area!  ARGH!!!!!

When I have problems with the coons eating figs and trying to get in my chicken pen,I let my large dogs outside at night and the coons will climb up a tree to escape.Their eyes are easy to spot with a flashlight in the trees.A big coon may kill a small dog so keep them on a leash.
Rat poison may kill your pets or the neighbors so I wouldn't use it unless you have a barn or shed with rodent problems that pets can't get into.

I can't let my dog run thru the neighborhood.  We have a leash law in my county.  And we also have coyotes.  My dog is a Maltipoo.  At night the owls try to get him when we take him out.  I'm not worried about the poison.  I only put out one chunk at one location.       Tomorrow I will have one less critter to worry about.

Dennis I am interested in your thoughts as to whether Kathleen's Black and Noir de Caromb are the same. Has your KB Fruited too?

My KB has a few small figs on.  My NdC has fig ripening now.  My KB did fruit last year and it will this year.  It just fruit a tad later than NdC.   I don't think they are the same fig.

Thanks Dennis. There has been a lot of speculation that they may be the same. Gene Hosey sold me my Kathleen's Black and he also was wondering if they are the same. With the different ripening times it would seem they are not.
