Jason, when Gino Black is ripe and ready to pick, the figs turn a dark purple; darker than Hardy Chicago. See pic below. The darker fig is ripe but the one on the left is not. If the fig stay that color and droop, then it's ready to pick and you will have yourself a Sal's. Sal's and Gino Black ripen at the same time but the color is true test in my zone, 8A. I think that tree is a Sal's. |

Thanks, Dennis! I have a sneaky suspicion I have a Sal EL/Gene here, but we will see. It could be that my Sal EL and Gino's Black somehow were somehow swapped (strange, I double-label everything), or ... maybe there was an error in shipping. Only time will tell. |
