To the first 9 people interested i have 5 cuttings each bagged up. Sorry I don't have any pics of the ripe fig but I can tell you that they are delicious. The flavor is sweet with  a berry flavor. One of the better figs i've tasted. They look like my Hardy Chicago but larger. The history behind this tree is that it came over around 1905 to Beaver Falls and moved to Ellwood City in 1954. This is an inground tree that wasn't covered last year. It was brought from the Calabria region of Italy, Province of Cosenza. I met this fellow 2 months ago and asked if I could get some cuttings this fall. Well he called me last night and had a bunch of cuttings and dug me up 3 starters with root.

I love all things Italian, and I'm in!  I've learned how to root cuttings.  Took some time, but I'm confident, and can't wait to see how this one works!  Love the story connected with it!

Art,
I noticed in the third picture you have a few cuttings potted. What kind of potting mix are you using and how has it worked out for you so far? Curious because I have not had good luck rooting so far.
  Thanks,
   Peter

I am confirmed as one of the lucky nine.  When my cuttings come, I'll do the usual and let them root in damp Spangum moss.

I fully intend to pay it forward.  I only need one plant! And I know many of you missed out, so this winter, I'll add a line to my signature of cuttings, rooted or otherwise that I have available.  Feel free to PM me around December or January!

figs4me, You are on top of the list! I actually sent out 11 sets, I initially said 9 but I ended up sending out cuttings I has set aside for myself. I will keep you in mind. This is a tree worth waiting for.

Art, don't be annoyed by me asking again... for a cutting - that sounds like a MUST have fig tree!  So, I am patiently waiting in line.    I am sending some of my extras to several other members and I hope to meet the same  kindness in return. Yes I am a bit anxious! Yes I am excited about all of this process.  I could trade for what I have or other amazing plants that I have.

Yesterday as I was boarding my plane back to Seattle, I received a call from a lady I left a note on her door a while back asking for one of her zillion suckers (of a very productive tree)... she said - come get it.. wow... made me very happy and it is this feeling of exchanging generosity that I am after.

Good day everyone!

I took mine and divided them up between 2 other members so it's getting around. Hoping this one roots!

these pictures look a lot with the fig tree (22y.o) that I have. Mine is unknown... I thought it was a brown turkey..but looking at your pictures, makes me wonder even more to find out what I have (which I have tons of cuttings available)

Not sure how long the cuttings were at the post office due to my absence, but today, I received very fresh cuttings and an entire rooted plant!  All in good condition.

My gratitude can't be measured.  Thank you so very much!  I will definitely pay this forward!

Chris + Kubota - thanks - would you guess before the winter? I'd like to give it a headstart with CFL and seedling mat.

(OT Anyway if anyone is interested in hot chili peppers, mostly Habaneros and Caribbean red and Jamaican brown, African Fatalii and Rocoto I have seeds and cuttings ( I bonsai and overwinter the best pepper plants in my kitchen window) . I just harvested 40 peppers from 2 potted plants with as many ripening - these are the  mostly Capsicum chinense that are larger, hotter, more flavorful but take longer to ripen but you only need one or half. I can edit and delete thit OT paragraph, but wanted to know if anyone may be interested).

Art, (Kubota1) did you put my nam in your list?  I was given several starters from a tree with light green or gold figs, I tasted one totally raisin(ed) by the sun and it was super sweet. nobody knows what it is, only that is very productive, even though, nobody prunes that tree.  So, if you care for this unknown, I can send you!  I am sending several cuttings monday, so I could do one for you also.

Art, how did you send those cuttings, and did you send me a plant too?  If not, mine didn't arrive.  I just got a PM from another member who asked how the plant and cuttings were.  Well, I assumed what I opened was from you because I knew everyone had them, but there was no return address on the box or label on the tree and cuttings, and there were more than 5 cuttings, too.  Now I don't know if what I got was Desert King from Bob Cantor,  or Unknown Italian from you.

What was the packaging like?  I'm now very confused.
