I noticed an interesting thread on the Chinese fig site:

It's about the root grafting technique discussed here lately. He posted a few pictures from a Chinese book published in the 60s-70s. The book is on mulberry cultivating, but the technique should apply to fig. The technique is called reverse pocket (or bag?) grafting in the book. Here is one of the pictures:

cannot read chinese, but love seeing pictures. On page 2 of these trail, there are some interesting one....

I have to go to that.. dig around my tree and find roots I can just plug a new cutting to it in place, so, no trauma for the root and later, just uproot the entire new plant. That is a genious idea!
