Brought my office flytrap home to place under the growlight to try to help it recover. I have only had it about 5 weeks.  It has black dead leaves, and some black traps.  I only have used distilled water and its in pure moss. Did over spray from misting nearby plants do this, not enough sun, or bad water mislabeled distilled?  Greg - you maybe the best person to answer this one.

I don't know much about the flytraps but I'd guess with the tips turning black that it's a lack of water issue. The same thing happened with my sundews, then I put the pot in a bowl with about 2 inches of water and they're doing fantastic now.

Probably got some mineral heavy water or fertilizer on it. Sometimes they will blacken after a big meal. I keep some of mine near my cuttings and they were splashed a little and blackened.
They need full light and should be watered by the tray method. They also need to go dormant in the winter or they'll die.

There is a really nice CP forum called Terra Forums where you can get very good info. I already started collecting and propagating CP's in addition to figs.

Also not a good idea to repeatedly trip the traps to see how cool it looks when it closes. That'll weaken the plant and can cause the traps die

You also need to be careful about feeding it anything!  If someone in the office slipped it some of their roast beef sub (for example!), it could easily cause the trap to start to rot!

EDIT:  You also need to maintain very high humidity or the leaves can blacken!

terraforum is cool.. tho they are not as responsive as this forum. i killed way too many flytraps just triggering the traps.. it's so neat how they shut up.

Looks like its recovering after 24 hours under the lights.  Its only been watered with distilled and have not tripped the traps. Likely misting from nearby violets splashed onto it I assume.
