I like the don't ask me to many questions part! I think it's the crazy prices the rare ones are bringing, there will be more and more of these style actions.

I'm not in it so much for the designer figs. I want exceptional tasting varieties that have stood the test of time and prove themselves over and over.
One nasty tasting light fig this year sent me straight over to the dark side with Martin! I will probably give it the alotted 3 years then it will have to find another home.

tami, it would be nice if you mentioned the name, to help me avoid an expensive mistake.

Well at least both auctions are from the same seller

Susie, the name is on the auction if you click the link, I'm sorry I didn't even pay attention to the name.
To be sure, buy elsewhere OR only from people you recognize from the forum. There are tons of ebay user threads to help you navigate through the mess.

EDIT:
Susie, you should put a wish list after your signature to let people know what you're interested in. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Alan, I hope you didn't think I was being a snot or pointing fingers. I truly believe saving varieties is imperative! I was alluding to the latest fad figs that pop up all the time and then everyone has to have one at all costs. Frankly, my checkbook won't cooperate with that kind of obsession.

alan, thanks for pointing out the aspect of saving a variety from extinction. that hadn't occured to me.

I guess the descriptions are *not* supposed to correlate to the photos or the photos are independent of the words he has written. Nonetheless, a quick search reveals where the photos have been used previously (if not originally).

Kadota and Brown Turkish Figs found here: http://www.comidayolas.com/2012/09/from-garden-harvest-monday-91012.html and those others are no names found here: http://www.foodista.com/blog/2012/08/21/please-the-eye-and-tempt-the-palate-green-figs-and-ham#.

Susie,
Nobody can tell you specifically which tree produces poor fruit unless they are in your area and have grown it. Each micro climate has a different effect on each fig. There are also the variables of soil and fertilizer to consider not to mention everyones different pallet.  The one I didn't like is some peoples favorite. I can tell you, I won't touch another brown turkey unless it is to turn it into root stock :)

Jon sells his cuttings at very low prices so we ordinary folks can develop good collections.  He's kind that way.  Here are his prices from last year:

A = 3 pcs for $6  B = 2 pcs for $6  C = s pcs for $8  D = 2 pcs for $10  E = 2 pcs for $12

Here's a list of recently completed ebay fig cutting sales
.  The highest of these is under $200 but I think the Galicia Negra that went for ~400 was two cuttings.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay, just making sure I didn't come off like a total B. Sometimes that happens when we just type and there are no voice inflections to give the meaning.

Oh, absolutely Alan, pretty please! I was just on your blog having fig envy over that very tree. Your last update was over a year ago though. Do you have any current pictures? Have you gotten ripe fruit? I find it to be a very exciting variety and I'm not sure why. That and my infamous Hative D'Argenteuil that I will get and I will keep it alive if it kills me! (On my UCD order) Haha

Not quite sure what you meant by this considering he doesn't state on his sales that he is a F4F member.

Also I think that if a person list something on Ebay then it is up to the buyer to have the knowledge to determine the value of something. Many wise people have said "What is the value of an item?" What someone is willing to pay for it."

I also have to say that the F4F member has not advertised his ebay listings here or tried to make anyone here bid on his auctions. He just simply listed some items and hopes for a bid or a buy.

To make things fair I have bought from this member and it was a bid auction. He shipped fast, his product traveled from coast to coast without any trauma and asked me the moment they arrived to email him to let him know all got to me safely and intact and if they didn't he would refund or make good on the items.

So I say if you don't like what he is listing or the price that he is listing it at nobody is forcing you to buy it. He has not abused this forum at all because he has not listed his listings here nor has he stated that he was a F4F member.

The funny part is....he has no idea what he's selling. And come on....a green black mission???? I'm having a hard time buying defense of this.
