I had these for breakfast, and they were probably the best tasting figs of the summer. I've eaten over 150 varieties this summer, but the Rich flavor and the sweetness of these figs topped them all. They seem to be darker than they've been in other years.

Can't wait til my lebanese red starts making me breakfast.

The tree is probably about 5-6 years now. It's in a large container. It had a lot of figs, but it was attacked by so many birds, and had to bag a bunch of them so I can at least get them to fully ripen.

Yes, these are Brebas, they're larger and bronze color.

Started my tree earlier this year from a cutting, it is doing very well with three small fruits on it.  If we have a mild fall I may get these to mature!

Bass beautiful fig glad to hear it is the best.  Harvey man I like that set up that looks great.  I know you have just plowed and planted but how do you plan to control weeds.

The breba crop is produced on the branches that grew last year.  The main crop is produced on the new growth of branches from the current year.  The qualities between the two crops can be quite different in some varieties and somewhat similar in others (in my somewhat limited experience).

Bass how cold hardy is that kind. Can it live in ground 6b. Been eyeballing this fig for a year or two myself. Just don't know if it will be worth growing in southern illinois

In China,We call "the breba crop" is "Spring crop" ,because the fruit is coming out in Spring on the last-year old branches.

I don't know if my tree will ripen figs this year or not, has anybody else had ripe fruit from this variety?

Hi Bass, How do these compare with Aldo/Palermo Red/Sicilian Red? My Aldo looks very similar to this fig (including the little "petals" around the stem), however, I have not had a breba crop.

@James, Aldo or the sicilian red are usually nice large figs, but I don't grow them. They seem similar to the Brooklyn Dark I grow. It's totally different variety than Lebanese Red.

Armando, yes, first crop (breba) is on last year's branches, second (main) is on current year's growth.

Someone on eBay asked me if Lebanese Red can be grown in the ground in Nashville, zone 7a.  Is anybody besides me (in zone 9b) growing this tree in the ground here in the USA?

I do have it in ground but I am the same zone you are:) 

I will be planting two in ground in the next couple of weeks in 8a. I have the two varieties one from Bass and one from Marius.

To clarify, the one from Marius is 'Lebanese Red'.  I have recently started growing it as well.  Bill's Figs also reportedly sells something he calls Lebanese Red which is something also different.

EDIT April 26, 2014: This is in error.  The fig from Bass is Lebanese Red and the fig from Marius is Red Lebanese.

Mike - that sounds great - I'll look forward to hearing about your results.  Do you have any early reports on the differences/similarities between these two varieties?

PVG, you have been registered here for nearly 2.5 years and have only posted recently and all of your requests are for free cuttings.  That comes across as being rude, IMO.  I paid over $200 for mine over a year ago.

Gah.....I hate fig names.......I don't have Lebanese red.....I have red Lebanese, could that get anymore confusing, sheesh.   Damn now I want Lebanese Red, thanks a lot Harvey.  

LOL, glad I could be of help!  Bass was of equal help in originally posting about it which convinced me that I needed it! :)  The fact that he was able to harvest that many ripe fruit at once (7.5 fruits in photo shown in first post) from a potted tree is impressive, IMO.

Harvey I'm in zone 6. I'm trying to get a lot of my container figs in the ground so I don't have as much work to do

Agreed Harvey. I paid $200. For a barely rooted cutting/ plant a few months ago

Steve, I was able to get two figs last year from one of them so I don't have anything to go on yet.

Harvey, that is correct that Marius does call his Lebanese Red and vice versa for Bass. Marius's variety comes from the Bekka region and the
one from Bass is from Beirut I believe.

Harvey sorry if I came across like that.  Just new to this fig hobby, hooked.  I do not know the parameters and am starting to see if I can root some cuttings I got in trades this year.

If you're just starting out it really is a good idea to fine tune your propagation and growing skills with some varieties that are more common and easily replaced.
