Is VdB (AF) any different from (plain) VdB?

George the AF is from Adriano, it produces allot of brebas double the size of vdb from edible landscaping also main crop is generally bigger and more prolific.

Also ripens breba 2 weeks earlier and it ripens most of main crop.

Wouldn't be surprised if that is PN.  Short stalks.  Fingers are much fatter than the VdB/Negronne norm.

Nelson,
Thanks for posting the pictures and commentary.
Do you also have a Petite Aubique for comparison? Thanks.
IMO The leaves on your VDB AF resemble the leaves of a Petite Aubique. I have a VDB EL and Petite Negri, but not the Petite Aubique. I do agree that the leaves do not match the Petite Negri.
Also thanks for posting leaves and figs.

Nelson,
Thanks for the Pictures, I remember them from your post last year.
IMO, the Petite Negri cultivar (from EL) is not healthy and exhibits symptoms of FMD which contribute to some of the problems with that cultivar.

The VDB although diseased, has much better growth and production.

I am looking to compare to the Petite Aubique.
Due to FMD the leaves are extremely variable, so comparisons are difficult, but with healthier older plants, it could be possible.
Thanks.

Some information on Ray Givens website concerning Edible Landscaping naming this cultivar.

Petite Negri
Identical with Negronne. Introduced under trade name of Petite Negri by Mike McConkey of Edible Landscaping

When folks rename figs it gets very confusing if the above information is correct.

aspete's image of VdB is more or less what my stereotypical VdB leaf looks like.

My PN has no FMV aside from some suckers deep in the shade of the canopy.

Bump! My vdb-af has more brebas than all the rest of my trees put together, and it's still young! I can't wait for this one!

How is the taste compared to a regular VDB?

Quackmaster

Registered:

The taste is about the same IMO, but I haven't had many to compare yet. But like nelson stated it produces more brebas and the he gets most of his main crop to ripen in canada so it's a little earlier then vdb from edible landscape

Damned, I didn't know about this AF cultivar, I just got my regular Negronne delivered last week from Baud figues.
