In a certain neighborhood in Allentown, Pa there are a few fig trees growing. One variety that I found growing in different yards was this one. After asking where it came from, they all seem to have obtained it from an old man who brought the tree from Akkar, in northern Lebanon, or Syria. The man passed away so I couldn't get a clear answer. I visited the original growers son and had the tree growing happily in his yard for many years.
It's a very tasty fig. Very productive and seems to be cold hardy.
It tends to split in heavy rain, but it's still performs well.
Some figs are long some are flat.

Cool, for figs, is this unusual to have both shapes?
Looks great

The skin color reminds me of your salem dark. You didn't mention the taste on this one bass.

It tasted really good actually. The skin is a bit thick, but the fig had a jammy sweet taste. Totally different than Salem dark.
I had a friend from Spain stating that it looks like the fig called llorales which is grown in Cartagena, which was a former Phoenician colony. I'm wondering if Phoenicians carried the fig there from Lebanon.

Will post photos of the tree soon.

here's the Llorales from Spain. I think it's similiar to shape, the color difference is probably different with the climate, not sure.

Does the owner cover the tree for winter?  It looks like they are keeping it very happy.

Like Mark said Shemali or Shimali means northern, as it comes from the region of Northern Lebanon.
