One of my Kids in a sarcastic manner suggested I Christmas up a fig tree. I have never seen a fig ornamented up, but here is the Contest. Decorate a fig tree up for Christmas and post a picture of it here and I will award the winner cuttings of six cultivars from the list below. Some will be 3 per cultivar, but several may be a single cutting as many of my plants are 1st year from cutting. I will likely add to the selection list later when I can get in and assess some young garaged trees. I will set an end date later and post it here. I will rely heavily on input on the thread for winner as my decorative tastes I have been told are lacking. |

You should have pictures emailed to you so you can post them anonymously to get votes with no names tied to them. I think it could be fun. |

aww.. all mine have gone dormant already. Nothing i'm keeping inside is big enough to hang ornaments on.. lol.. Is there an award for the saddest looking decorated fig tree? |

Most everyone's will be dormant, so don't let that stop you. I have always been kind of a Charlie Brown guy anyway, and you saw his Tree initially |

What a fun idea. I will be looking forward to seeing the entries. I may even have a dormant stick to enter. |

that's why everyone needs to root a cutting or two at all time. if you have one that's putting on the top, that can be dressed up :) |

For 6 great varieties to add to the menagerie, I may just have to decorate the frankenfig onto which the prizes would be grafted. Have patience, I bet you get some other takers, too. |

I'm afraid I can't post pictures, but here is a fig decoration as opposed to a decorated fig.... :) |

Now, That’s what I was talking about Mike. The fig ornaments are nice, but doing up the fig tree itself was what I was after. You set the bar high. |

My figs are all tucked away for the Maine winter, but for this competition I ran and got one and started to decorate it: |

Very Nice Greg. I like the transformation, from a twig to a tree:) We have a couple nice trees now so going to go ahead and set Sat Dec 14th 6:00 PM E.T. as the deadline for posting an entry. |

I was afraid to add any weight or decorations to my first cuttings I have ever rooted but does including them in the nativity scene count? =) |

3 figs as gifts from 3 wise men? Almost looks like palm trees in the setting. It will count as an entry as I like it, but I will say I will likely stay close to the initial statement of a decorated tree in choosing a winner. |

Okay Folks Time is up, and I see 3 folks whose posting has their own fig tree in a holiday setting. So you all three win. NewnanDawg, GregMartin, Hoosierguy86 if you could either post or PM around 10+ choices in your order of desire, I will try and work through and be fair to all. The reason for 10+ as opposed to 6 is as I indicated initially many/most of these are 1st year cuttings so maybe only one cutting and if you all select the same one I could not manage, but in the spirit of holiday and giving this seems best to me. I hope this works for you as well and thanks for sharing your Holiday Figs.
Best Figs and Happy Holidays to all. |
