I bought one of those tiny trees on ebay last year, a Chicago Hardy. My wife laughed and said I got ripped off. Then it grew 5+ ft and produced 5-6, absolutely wonderful tasting figs in the first year! If they have the variety you are looking for, I say go for it. |

I bought some of the Alma's from him last year. They were nice plants and have grown well. Now to see whether they survive the weather here. Have two in-ground, and one in a pot and buried in a very sheltered area. |

I bought trees off him for the last 2 years, they are great little trees but the leaves are all the same , So I guessed bt or celeste. I use the trees for grafting. I want to point out that I am no expert.Rex. |

mmm, so tempting. And, yes indeed, the deal is unbelievably cheap, Can't go wrong with the price...
I think I'll stick to my cuttings though, At least I know what I'm going to get, and rooting is fun for me too, that way It feels like I am the sole cause they are growing. haha. |

I received my cheap, bare root trees today. I haven't taken them out of the plastic wrap yet since I need to go get some potting soil. As far as I can tell, they are in good shape. There is no way I can tell for sure if they are the varieties I ordered, but each bundle of trees has distinctively different bark, buds and branch shape. |

Hi folks, I am the grower mentioned. I have been lurking since javajunkie recomended last year. This is the thread. http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/alma-on-ebay-6349258?highlight=alma+ebay%C2%A0 . As stated before please mention the forum if you decide to order and I will hand select your trees, usually best of 6. I stand by my variety listing. I am just a hobbyist trying to supplement my collection. Drought this year, trees are a little smaller than last. Almas are largest followed by celeste and mission. I had a great experience with the forum last year and would once again like to give members the best specimens. Thank you. |

coralgroher: Welcome to the forum. Nice of you to step up and make some clarifications about the trees you're offering on ebay. If I didn't already have the varieties you're offering, I'd give you a shot & order some. Your prices are very fair and that's something I believe in - being fair to others. Keep it up and others will treat you in kind - IMHO. |

Potted mine up this morning. Didn't notice the freebies until I unwrapped them. Thanks coralgroher! None of the trees were smaller than I expected, so that wasn't necessary, but good insurance against my two brown thumbs. |

Here is my Black Mission today. This will be my first fig to ripen of any of my fig trees that I have grown so far. It is currently about as ripe as the ripest black mission I have ever seen at my local grocer. I think I can get it a little riper. I can't capture the detail, but it is starting to form tiny wrinkles around the equator which I expect may develop into cracks. |

PS: This tree would have been bigger than it is now, but she was neglected. I was short on soil when I potted her, so she was sitting in less than a gallon and never received any fertilizer. I recently transplanted to a 5 gallon container WITH soil. Also, I trained most of my other trees. This one was allowed to grow crooked. Despite the abuse, it has been a strong tree. Just not up to it's full potential. Can't wait to pick this fig! |
