Does Goccia D'Oro aka (La Goccia D'Oro) go by any other name? I did a search here but did not find my answer. Jon does not have it listed either. While we're at it, why is Votata not on Jon's list?

What color is the interior of Dottato?  Sometime I see red and sometime golden cream?

I spoke to Joe Morle last week to ask if the Goccia D'Oro is the same as Dottato, which is probably the most loved fig in Italy. He said NO they are not the same. That said, I was not entirely convinced by his conclusion. I am waiting for an Italian fig expert to respond to my query, will keep you posted.

i really wouldn't know what GdO is or will look like.. yet. synonyms are just that.. nothing more. unless you can grow the figs with synonyms and verify that they are same, it's just name that's been given to a fig and what people think they are similar to. same reason why i grow certain varieties to see if they are same or similar to each other.. but with limited space, i can't grow everything i would like to grow. GdO has been on my list for awhile. i mean.. with name like "Drop of Gold", how can you go wrong? it's like Fico Paradiso not tasting like paradise. i certainly think Fico Paradiso does taste like a piece of paradise.

This fig has also been defined as a Kadota variant. As Pete says, grow and compare. I liked them well enough, even if the eye is open. They are not "golden" in appearance though. Just a regular ole' green fig. Not even sure if Morle's Goccia is same as the one in Europe.

Hi,
I'll tell you about "goutte d'or" in a few months; at least, if it doesn't drop its brebas this year !
In 2013, they looked yellow already when pea sized - so definitively not the same as BT.
