I wish I had morels, but instead I have these at the base of my potted fig tree. I mulch my pots with wood mulch and generally regard any mushrooms showing up as good signs of biological activity. It's growing in full sun 100+ temps. Anyone know what this alien thing is? The size of each of them is about 0.5cm and though it looks like there are dark pebbles inside them but those things are part of the fungus. |

Definitely bird's nest. Some people do get morels in wood chips. |

I see alot of that bird nest fungi in my potted blues. I have thick layer of pine bark mulch on them plus the fert I use is full of benefical fungi which may be responsible. Who knows? I do know I havent ever seen a problem it causes with my plants. |

I just have to comment on what a great photo you took. When I opened it up it showed such a lovely blend of colors and textures that it is quite beautiful, even if it is a fungus. (maybe I'm crazy or it's almost midnight:)) |

oh, speaking of Shitake' ... when you rehydrate the Shitake' mushrooms, never throw away the water in the sink, instead sprinkle everywhere on your mulch, specially in shaded areas. you might see a lot of fresh Shitake' on your mulch next rainy season. I can't remember where exactly but read it in a eMagazine several months ago. |

I had that too. It looks like the slime mold in the reference provided by hoosierbamana. I thought I had accidentally dropped diatomaceous earth on a plant. Now I know what that is. |
