Maybe your wife was jealous that you were paying more attention to the RdB than to her and she tossed it out.

Sorry to hear that! I had a Lattarolla stolen from my front porch about a month ago. We were having flooding rain coming our way so I moved all my newly potted up cuttings to the front porch area to get out of the rain. We ordered some delivery food and when he came to the door he asked if these were all figs. I told him yes and gave him a Atreano rooted plant to take with him. He told me he just helped his friend plant 3 fig trees last week. Im not sure it was him that took the Lattarolla, but some one came back either that night or the next day and took another one. That was the only Lattarolla I had. Between loosing a lot of cuttings to gnats, mother in laws dog and thieves its amazing I have as many plants as I do.

I doubt it because he isn't married to my wife, lol.

I can't stand a thief, my dad always told me since I was a kid that a liar and a thief go hand and hand.

I try to be extra nice to my wife so she won't throw mine out....so far so good, but I keep a close eye on them.

I would blame the dog, when something comes up missing here that's the likely suspect. 

Grow them big and strong, put in 30 gallon pots, a lot of work to steal a heavy 30 gallon pot, very noticeable too.

not much worse than a plant thief, that stinks. I had a plant stolen from the Philly Flower show boy did that tick me off

That really sucks. You should post flyers around the neighborhood like its a missing pet!

I posted a thread about my concern for plants being stolen last year. Several people have had it happen. I do not label my trees or group them just for that reason.

TonySac - really lame. Sorry to hear it. I have to wonder if people know what they're actually stealing. I mean, was it someone who knew your fig and, if so, familiar with the variety? So run-of-the-mill klepto or a true fig thief?

Rich - how do you keep track of what you have without labels? Not grouping them is a great idea, but for watering it makes it so much easier.

Thats nuts, people stealing figs or plants. the world is in a sad state. get aholde of me in fall.

We are quick to blame a fig-addicted human here. I would bet a dollar that some no account critter is the more likely culprit! I hate to admit it, but my dog Woofy would be among the first to do such a dastardly deed if given the opportunity. There is a down side for fig thieves: Pictured here is the remains of a possible fig thief (later identified as the WW of the East) who had been caught in a Munchkin fig trap: 

I heard many fig theft stories from Chris DiPoala of Belleclare Nursery.
Common event according to Chris, 
happened at his nursery and his customers homes.
I remember one story where he told me someone stole 6 fig trees
from one of his customers in a single night, 
trees were in 25 gallon containers.

Also related stories about customers coming to the nursery and
taking their own cuttings from his trees while he was not looking.

He defended against this by either not labeling certain trees,
or labeling a highly desirable variety a different name.

I've seen people many times walking on to private farm land
to harvest what they want from the fields,
seen people in orchards with pruners taking cuttings,
numerous times.
Stealing a potted tree  fits right along with this behavior.

Working in a garden center & growing plants on my own I've learned some, maybe most, people have little appreciation of what effort goes into raising plants. They are often viewed as low value regardless of what it is..."It's just a plant." Kind of crosses into Mike's thread of strangers begging for stuff.

That said, sorry for the loss! I would offer aid if I could, but it looks like others have your back!

Well it didn't turn up anywhere it was surely stolen my dogs def didn't get it and ive been here for 5yrs and have never seen a dog off leash so I have to say it was stolen all I can do is hope something comes my way and with all you guys im sure something will thanks everyone.

Now you know why some people keep discreet when raising in pots - Ninjas are everywhere !.

Mine are hidden in between tomato plants for now, and I haven't told about them to anybody . In the future, if some neighbor wants to exchange, I'll say I'll be bringing the pot from home.
Our fences are only a meter high, so "don't give ideas to others !" is the rule because once they get that habit, nothing lasts for long afterwards.
Last year a small pumpkin growing at my fence got missing. While speaking to a neighbor, I told him about, and I said "Damn kids !" and his answer was "kids of that size are called adults !" ...
I didn't ask for more as it was too late, the fruit was marked from the fence so a bit ugly, and I didn't want to get more pissed...
I probably would have given the pumpkin if asked, but I like swaps and apparently the other one was more of the kind "give me, as I have nothing if you ask me, and gardening hurts my back! ".

So now you know, don't use again that spot of the house for pots - anything you put there will go ! Still I would look around if the pot didn't get tossed and pushed away by the wind ... Who knows ...But you probably already did...

Last yar, I had 5 trees in pots in my front yard on the retaining wall. The garbage guy came collect garbage, thinking they are garbage. Next second, they were in the garbage truck.

The missus' cousin back in Cyprus is always having potted figs stolen from his front yard. He even caught one thief in the act. So he remonstrated with him, and the thief's reply was.......well, you've got enough of them, haven't you? There's no shame anymore, & any excuse will do for them. Lowlife.

Seriously??? That was his reasoning/excuse?? That he has a lot of them so he can take whatever he'd like? What?? That guy is too ridiculous!

David - I so wish I was just kiddin' y'all, but unfortunately it's all too true. That is the kinda warped logic they use these days to defend the indefensible. If he had more than one of anything, I wonder how he'd feel if he had one of them stolen? But that thought never enters their empty amoral heads, does it?
