Very large fig (scales broke so no weight). This is really a blah tasting fig but it could also be due to some rain while ripening. It needs to get better soon. About a 5 on 1-10 scale.

You have to be nice to this fig, Mike: I, too, am a Calabrese and have been accused of being blah tasting from time to time, especialy when it rains!   Joe

Hi newnandawg,
Did you already compare that fig to a "Goutte d'or" ?
I'll post the pic of my "Goutte d'or" later.
Mine grew in a shady position, and it looked like that. There are two more on the tree on a sunnier branch, and those figs are more colored .

Wow, that's a big one. Rain, definitely, affects taste and flavor big time.

I lost a large breba crop to the weather this year and now no main crop, but when she bears, it's great. Good for you! Enjoy.

jds, is your Goutte d'or the same as Doree?
I have a Baud Doree with quite a few figs on it- yet to ripen. It grows outward instead of upward.
Thank you.

Had the second and third off this tree and the taste had improved tremendously.  Just about the right sweetness
with a melon/honeydew flavor. I will up it to a 7 and see if it gets even better without the rain again.

Does anyone know if there is also a black troiano?

Hi leon_edmond,
Yes, "Goutte d'or" is another name for "Dorée".
Mine are growing more upwards, but that could be due to competition for access to the sunlight .
This evening, I should have another ripe "Goutte d'or" - it was a bit damaged by the late cold weather but should be good although not developing to its full size .
