This is the largest fig I have ever grown. Only wish my scales were working. I would guess that it is at least 3.0 oz as it is much lager than the Persian White at 2.67 oz. Not only is it huge it is also the best tasting fig thus far for 2014. Not overly sweet with hints of pear and maybe just a little honey. Very refreshing. I will give this a 9.

That is an impressive fig, Mike. I am happy to have this variety, but mine are weeks away. Great that a fig so large tastes so good. How old is your tree?

Gary, it is a third year tree and did absolutely nothing the last two years but it has another 15 figs that look good so far.

Mike, it looks fantastic!  Is it a breba?  Is the main crop early, medium or late in ripening? Does it hold up well to rain for you? Interesting that it took so long to fruit.  My Paradiso (Gene) is a 2nd year tree in the ground that is already a rapidly growing bush about 5 feet tall and finally put on one tiny figlet that probably won't ripen this year.  So I won't get any fruit until the 3rd year at the earliest.  So given your experience with G.N. I guess I shouldn't be too worried.

Oh, I don't recall seeing the cavity in other G.N. photos on the forum.  Perhaps only breba exhibit the cavity?

Does anyone know about the Nero from just fruits and exotics which type it is.  I have one of those the only Nero I have sure would be nice if it is this one.

Looks really nice, do you have any problems with spitting or insects entering the eye? I am thinking about getting one and live where it is hot, wet, and humid....way south of you.

Waynea, I don't think it is going to split. It with stood four days of rain though this ripening period and did not split.

I know Mike doesn't post here anymore but I think this fig MIGHT be the same as Texas Blue Giant. Looking forward to rooting some of these to compare against my 4 Texas Blue Giant which is the largest fig I've ever eaten. Mike's photo look soooooo much like mine. The more heat, the sweeter and darker the fig. Time will tell.

I think it looks like my Texas blue giants as well, I also have 4 of them. They taste the best when they ripen in the hottest part of summer. I moved mine under the overhang of my roof last year to keep the rain off of them during the last 3 weeks of ripening. I think I rated it a 8.5/10, it has a nice simple sweet refreshing taste, really good fig for a hot day.

This fig looks and sounds (size - taste) a lot like my California Brown Turkey.  I'm not familiar with Genovese Nero, and am not suggesting that Genovese Nero might be California Brown Turkey.

Here is a pic of my Texas Blue Giant ripe fig. The resemblance is uncanny! They could be the same fig.
